Archer Peters (1842-1919) and their son, Leonard Archer, died 1878 at the age 20 years. They are supposedly buried in the Independence Cemetery, near Sandyville, Jackson County, WV, but I could not locate any headstones for them. They resided on the Little Sandy, Lockhart and Sherman. Ackerson Archer may have Civil War military headstone.

Good morning, list - I am a Sherman (surname) researcher, and am writing a series of articles about "places" around the U.S. named SHERMAN, for our newsletter. I noticed in the 1870 census that there were Sherman Townships in Boone Co., and Calhoun Co. - but my current Atlas only lists a "Sherman" in Jackson County. I have written to the Jackson Co. Historical Society, but am hoping also that someone on this list can tell me about the town of Sherman. Her father was William Martial Taylor b.1845 d. 1917, mother was Nancy Alice____ b.1856 d. 1931; brothers were Rufus Oren Taylor and Leon Cecil Taylor. If anyone has information, or an idea where I can go further, I'd appreciate the help. I understand the 1900 census was destroyed by fire. I know that Nell ended up in Detroit and married my Grandfather Alfred Stebbins. Maybe William was in the Civil War??? Thanks for any help.

That Nathan C. Shinn, the son of said Claimant was member of said Company. That on or about the 19th September in the year 1864, the said Nathan C. Shinn, while in the line of his duty, at the battle of Winchester, Virginia, was shot and instantly killed. That affiant was near by when the ball struck said Shinn, and saw him after he was dead. That said Nathan C. Shinn was an unmarried man. That said Nathan C. Shinn was saving his money and was in the habit of sending it home, but for what purpose affiant does not know." Would you happen to know if there is a record of marriage between Rudolf Miller, and Charlott Lawrence. I'm not sure when they were married. They had a daughter named Lurilla, born June 3, 1866 (my Great Grandmother). Lurilla Miller married William Davis March 19, 1863. They were from Ravenswood, WV.
