Here is a little more on the Slaughters (and Averys). John M. and some of his family went to Kansas in about 1880 but he returned to Jackson Co. after a short time. His son, Abraham, married in Kingman, KS and died there. Most of their children went to OK. John M.'s brother, Elijah Slaughter, m. Simonia Fairchild "Sarah" Avery in Jackson Co. She was sister of Mary and was born in IL but raised by foster parents in Smithland, KY. She d. 1931; both bur.Cottageville Cemetery. I think that the Schuls must have come from KS as they are not mentioned in any Jackson Co. records.

    3. Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Jackson/12122 Surname: Slaughter, Avery, Schul, Day ------------------------- Clark, I think the info I have is correct. Louella Slaughter was born 14 April 1868. I thought she was born in West Virginia, but I'm not sure. Some where after 1880, the John M Slaughter family left Jackson County and moved to Kansas. I believe Kingman, Kansas. There Louella married Fredrick Casper Schul who had also moved to Kansas from West Virginia, Ohio county, around Wheeling. They had three children, Edna Irene Schul, b 1893, Lena Avis Schul, B 1889, and Fredrick Schul, b 1900. These are the only ones I'm aware of. Louella died in Spetember 1930 in winfield Kansas. Fredrick C. died in Feb 1943, also in Winfield. Lena A. Schul married Omer Oral Day from Washington Cty, Indiana, in 1914. I have some more on this line.

It lists her parents as J. & Mary. I was wondering if the J could have been a typing mistake. I have been trying to find the brothers and sisters of my ggrandfather, Jason B. Mullinnex, who was originally from Hampshire county before he moved to Jackson county. His parents were Israel and Mary. Does anyone have any info on Charity? I would appreciate any help. 1. [WVJackson] Brown Families of Jackson County
    2. Dan Huddleston
    3. Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Jackson/12112 Surname: Brown, Nelson ------------------------- Here is my problem. In the 1870 census of Wood County, there is a Joseph Brown (56), James (23), Samuel (21), Rebecca(26), John(22), Polly(19), Joseph (14), Henry C(12). Now when Joseph Jr, and Henry C get married in Wood County, they say their parents were Mary and Joseph Brown from Jackson County. There is also a David who gets married there in Jackson County, who says his Joseph and Mary Brown. Can anyone account for any of these people. I'm looking for obituaries that list family members, wills. Does anyone know what happens to Mary, and when ? My relative is another child whom I'm tyring to figure out if she belongs. In her death certificate it lists her parents as Mary and Joseph Brown, trying to figure out if she belongs to this family. She is not with the family in 1860 census. So my thoughts are that Mary either leaves or dies and the young child, Emma or Emeline Brown is with relatives, maybe a married sibling, or with Mary if she leaves. Emma was born Jan 20, 1853, but don't know where, other than Va/WV. I know there are alot of Jackson County Brown's, can any one give me clues or connections. thank you for all help. Dan Huddleston

    2. Rockcastle does still exist but the post office is no longer in operation and there are only about 4 or 5 houses there. The post office was moved to someone's property there and they are in the process of restoring it. It is way out on a ridge outside of Ripley about 5 or 6 miles....took me 3 years to find it and am not sure I could get back there again....so beautiful out there though. Hope this helps! -Shari Searching for the Little family.

    2. Betty Briggs
    3. Posted on: Jackson County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/WV/Jackson/12106 Surname: ANDERSON, HUGHES, WHETZEL, TOLLEY, GANDEE ------------------------- The 1850 Jackson County, VA census reads: Jno Anderson, 48, m, farmer, Ohio, and he was a person over 20 years of age who could not read & write. He has a wife Susan who was 50, f, from VA and also could not read & write. This does appear to be the same man who is listed as James in later censuses, and the one who married Susan/Susannah Hughes. Perhaps the census taker wrote Jas and the transcriber just messed up. The name of the youngest child, Anna, is written over something else, so I'm not sure his mind was on his work that day! The original transcription of this census is, to say the least, not good. Entries were made out of order - whole pages were out of sequence, dwelling numbers were reused. The Whetzel family is spilt, little John Tolley was separated from the rest of his family and God alone knows who Martha Gandee really lived with! The spelling and handwriting both leave a lot to be desired so it is not surprising that some names are not correct. I'd be happy to email a copy of the actual page of the census to anyone who wants to see it.
