I am not aware of maps of this type being available but if anyone should know of maps of any of the Jackson County towns and communities, I am sure I can find room to place them online. I am looking for a detailed map of Gay, WV for the time frame 1908-1925, preferably one that may have the name of the families that lived there. Is there anyone researching folks that live in Gay? My line of Cox and Harman's came from that area. Thanks for your help. Pat Researching Abe, Baldwin, Cox, Crawfice, Crawfries, Harman, Harmon, Myers, Robison, Robinson

And, the "streets" haven't changed from the 1908-1925 time period you're looking for. When I look for towns, areas, and cemeteries, I use the U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) webpage that has the form for entering what I'm looking for: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form As for Gay, you can select from several types of maps here: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.GetDetail?tab=Y&id=1539361 This is the TopoZone map of Gay, large size: http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=17&n=4292166.00011019&e=450875.999999996&datum=nad83 My Litton ancestors are from Gay, they settled the area in the late fall of 1832. If you'd like to read about the early days of the area, try "Abraham Litton - A Historical Sketch" - by John A. House Published in the Jackson Herald, Ripley, WV, April 12, 1912 at: http://rootsweb.com/~deschart/abraham.html Hear is a descendant chart of a Cox family of Gay WV: http://rootsweb.com/~deschart/z0000082.html You can browse a list of linked descendant charts of many WV families at: http://rootsweb.com/~deschart/idc.html The People Index for those the charts is at: http://rootsweb.com/~deschart/i-people.html There are some Harmans. We have 1,300+ linked descendant charts at http://rootsweb.com/~deschart containing 170,000+ people. The process became to difficult to do manually though, and so last month we started moving the charts over to a new automated database system at http://www.webroots.org/ourfamily and expect to be adding 10,000+ people a month. Ohio. The only difference is that her b.d. is listed in the 1880 census as abt 1879. She married Edward A Kovaleski and had 3 sons, Clemency, Walter and Charles. Mary died in 1925. On the 1930 census there are 2 other Burges still in York township. Jack and Mary, both born abt 1857-they had a niece, Helen living with them-she was b. abt 1916. Also, in Chauncey, Athens Co.-two more Burges are listed. They are Lemual and Albert(both born abt 1880-poss.twins??). I hope that we may be able to help each other. The Mary Burge I am looking for is my husband's grandmother. Thanks!

Starcher. None of the other names are buried there. If this could be your John C. STarcher, then Mary Ann could easily be his daughter born in 1820 the following year your records show John marring in Mason County in 1819. Mary's stone shows she is the daughter of J.G. and G. Starcher. They may not be yours but interesting compairson.

Because Rachel is listed in Jackson Co. WV in a later census without Peter, if he'd died with the family in KS, I expect she would've stayed there to be buried with him. They could be buried in OH too, because their kids went back and forth from there, Matilda living in Vinton, Co Oh for awhile and also their daugther Julia marrying Andrew Friend in Meigs Co. Oh, I just don't know, if you want more on Rachels family, email me [email protected] does anyone know when Wm. Pierce died?. thanks. Jane Donohue Boucher.

Going by memory here, the only one of their children that I know of who ended up in KS was their son Wm. Shields. My gr. gr grandmother was Matilda Shields, she was with Wm. Shields in the 1850 Jackson Census as Matilda Pierce, she later married Martin D. McCarty, Matildas daughter Sarah Ann Byrnes was my gr. grandmother. email me directly if you want more info. I would be very happy to receive what you have about her. I know that Peter and Rachel's son is buried in Belmount Cemetery in Wathena, Kansas (William) and also his first wife, Elizabeth. I am still trying to find out if his father (Peter)is buried in the cemetery. Last time I was there, I noticed a new sign for the cemetery and a "Odd Fellows" group was mentioned. I am in the process of trying to see if they can help me in locating the headstone.
