    1. Location of Beatyville, WV
    2. Bette McIntosh
    3. Thank you Les S. & Betty B. for your follow-up message regarding the location of "Beatyville", Jackson Co. An unincorporated hamlet of a sort named after it's most notable inhabitants; if not it's only inhabitants. Would that be a fair assessment of the place? No need to reply.. that was just me thinking out loud. Does anyone recognize the name / person of John Jacob BAKER (1852-1931) a mail carrier in and around the area of Ravenswood? I am also seeking information regarding Jesse James BAKER (the son of Sarah & John Jacob BAKER) who I believe married Dorothy (nee CASTO). Thanks for your help. Bette

    1. Re: [WVJackson] Location of Beatyville, WV

    3. Hi Bette, My first guess would have been the area where there were four or five houses at the forks of Beatys Run. However I knew that while my grandmother was teaching school in the early 1900s and would write home to her mother and sisters, she addressed their mail to them at Crow Summit. This would have been just over a mile south of where they lived. I decided to do some more searching. In looking up the various listings for Beaty in "Jackson County Past and Present 1990" on page 54 the article on the Simpson Methodist Episcopal Church it lists the church as being located at Beatysville, one half mile south of the Wood County line and one mile north of Nesselroad Run. This would be about two miles NNW of Medina. The church is located on the left side of the road about one quarter mile up the hill. J B Beaty was listed as one of the original trustees of the church. This is hillside farming country and there is little or no sign of a community that I can remember. I do have COEN, BURDITT, JOHNSTON and McCULLOUGH ancestors buried in the cemetery beside this church. 3. http://www.wvculture.org/history/placnamb.html It doesn't say where for Beatysville, just when - 1885. It does have locations of some places and it's a large database of place names in WV, so someone else may find info there. Your WV taxes at work. :) Betty Bette McIntosh wrote: >Hello List Members, > >I am looking for the location of "Beatyville", Jackson Co., WV. I suspect that it was a place name in use ca. late 1890s as I see a few mentions of it but only in terms of pre-1900 references. It does not seem to exist as a place name today since none of the online mapping websites show it. If anyone out there is researching the surname HENSON (William Edward) and/or Rebecca Ann BEATY I would be happy to hear from them. Thank you, Bette
