They are first noted as living in Fairfield County, Ohio in the 1820.census. They settled in Fairfield county close to the Pickaway county line. Alpheus was a member of Captain David List company, out of Franklin county between July 28, 1813 and September 6, 1813.     3. I believe your James M. Hughes is James Madison Hughes, the son of Jesse David Hughes Jr. and Susanna Mock. Jesse Jr. is the son of the famous Inidan Scout Jesse Hughes and his wife Grace Tanner. Jesse and Grace were 3rd g grandparents. I am not totally sure of this since James is not on my direct line. I would suggest posting your query on the Hughes mailing list. I have had great success with my Jackson Co. Hughes family with queries on the hughes mailing list.
