    3. Hello List Members, I am hoping that some kind person will be able to help me with a search for a newspaper article that may have appeared in the local newspaper in Jackson County on or shortly after 28 April 1917. The article concerns the untimely death of my ancestor, William Henry BAKER. The tragic demise of BAKER took place in Cabell County but BAKER's remains were sent back to Mason County for burial. The Mason County archived newspapers for 1917 are missing in the Point Pleasant Library and the Point Pleasant Register (newspaper) only keeps microfilmed copies for two years. I am searching for the name of the funeral home that would have been in business in Mason County at the time who would have handled the necessary arrangements as well as the burial location/cemetery. Thank you, Bette

    3. Hi Ellen, First did you look at the 1840 Jackson County census for Daniel and Margaret? It is often overlooked that Jackson County was formed in 1831 and about one third of it was taken from Mason County. I have several ancestors who were listed in Mason County census up through 1830 and then in Jackson County from 1840 on without moving from their original locations. Also I will print out a copy of your email and take to work with me. Ron Morgan works the same job as me but on a different shift. He does have quite a bit of information on the Morgan family. 1. Mason-Jackson Co. Connection - Yeager-Morgan Morgan-McNear McNear-Rhodes
    2. Ellen Reesh
    3. I'm sorry this is going to be such a long one but I am having trouble with these families and am wondering if there is anyone out there who might recognize this family. Margaret YEAGER daughter of Peter Yeager married a Daniel MORGAN some time before 1824 when their first child Solomon was born. In the 1830 Federal Census for Mason Co. Virginia Margaret is listed as Head of house hold with 1 male between 5-10 and one female under age of 5. I have a deed where she and Daniel are named grantors along with her sisters Catherine wife of Daniel ROUSH, Sarah wife of George AUMILLER, brother Solomon Yeager and wife Susan. Brother Joseph was the grantee, as he took over their deceased father's mill located on Old Town Creek, in Mason Co. WV dated 20 Aug 1831. This is my only proof that Daniel and Margaret were married, however only Margaret signed the deed whereas all the other spouses of the brother and sisters signed the deed. Where is Daniel????? This family disappears in 1840, doing a line-by-line search of Morgan Co. there are NO Morgan's living in Mason Co. in 1840. Daniel and Margaret Morgan's son Solomon and Rachel CALDWELL were married 13 Feb. 1845 in Mason Co. On 17 January 1847 Solomon and Rachel purchased a piece of property that borders the Yeager Mill (this comes from the descriptions of the land in the deed between Hutchinson McDaniel, his wife Hannah and Solomon and Rachel). Solomon and Rachel had the following children: 1850 Mason Co. census - Daniel V. Morgan age 4 (he married Mary Francis Meek in Greenup Co. KY 1868) 1860 " " Daniel V age 14 James W. age 6 (he married Mary E. McNear 1880 Mason Co. WV) Margaret age 4 Mary F. age 1 In 1870 Solomon is apparently longer living and Rachel has remarried (I think) to a Henry CHERRY [1868 Mason Co.Marriage Record] however in the Mason Co Census we find Rachel (now Cherry) age 41 attached to the household of a John Pullin and his 11 children (his wife Elizabeth has probably died - I found the Pullin's living near Solomon and Rachel in the 1850 census and in the same general vicinity in 1860 so they were neighbors). Rachel now has the following Morgan children living with her: James W age 18 (this is my husbands ggrandfather) Margaret age 14 Mary F. age 11 Jesse age 10 Silia L(?) age 7 (f) infant age 1/12 (m) A closer look at the above 1870 census I discovered that Rachel owned the land and the Pullins were just working the farm. Where is Henry???? I found a Racheal (sic) Morgan age 52 (did she go back to Morgan from Cherry?) in Robinson, Mason Co. in the 1880 census with a 20 year old Mary. Now this is where the story gets interesting, in Feb 1884 Jesse T Morgan sued Mary F Morgan wife of Daniel V. Morgan deceased, and all of his children for the partition of 5 acres of land that was part of the Solomon Morgan estate. He was claiming his share and that of his three other siblings. Mary Francis Morgan had been given permission to live in the abandoned Solomon Morgan estate by Rachel Morgan after the death of her son Daniel V. Morgan. (In 1883 James W. Morgan and his wife Mary signed over their share of the estate for $100.) The upshot of the story is that Mary Francis Morgan and her children were given $100 and told to leave the Solomon Farm and to deed over their share of the estate to Jesse T who then sold the property to Maggie Musgrave for $1000. I am sure there is more to this story that I have not yet found. Where was Rachel when all this was going on???? Now for the Jackson County part of this story. Jame W. Morgan married Mary E. McNEAR (McNeer) in Jan. 1880, she is the daughter of Daniel Forney McNear and Charity RHODES of Roane Co., Daniel is said to be from TN (this not profen as I can not locate any McNear in TN, or WV and as yet haven't located him in PA either) Charity is the daughter of Joseph Rhodes and Sarah (1850 Jackson Co. census) In the census I have for Charity and Daniel McNear it lists his birth place as VA, parents both PA Daniel fought in the CW on the Union side he was wounded, received a pension as did Charity as his widow. Other than the 1870 and 1880 census for Jackson Co. Charity and Daniel disappear. They had the following children James S. McNear bn abt 1863 m. Mary Morgan (is this James W. Morgan's sister) they moved to TX Mary E, McNear bn Aug of 1865 m James W. Morgan (husbands ggrandlparents) Martha J. McNear bn abt 1867 m Arnold Harper William H.
