My parents traveled to MD to be married. The reason seems to be that there was no waiting period after obtaining the license. I believe WV had a 3-day at that time. I guess that once they made up their minds to "tie the knot" they didn't want anybody changing their minds for them during the waiting period or maybe they just didn't want to wait.
