Hi Yvonne, In the book: Genealogical and Personal History of the Upper Monongahela Valley WestVirginia Under the Editorial Supervision of Bernard L. Butcher I found a WHETSELL. It started on page 1342. According to the sketch the name belonged to a German family living in Maryland. The variation on spelling in colonial days was WETZELL.
