They should have a Clarksburg City Directory at the library that may list that Mayflower Inn. I have been here most of my life and have not heard of it. That certainly doesn't mean it wasn't here, however. Lyle
Hi David Received your message and tried to email you direct, but I do not think it went through, anyway is there any chance your father could remember any of the boys his was there with. I hope so. My father never told me much about the place except his mother left him there and never returned to get him, as she said she would. Thanks Nancy McKane
All I know is that the letter is address to my father William H. Hymes c/o of the Mayflower Inn. Clarksburg, W.Va. year 1950 dec 24 Nancy McKane
Nancy I have lived most of my life in Clarksburg WV & never heard of the Mayflower Inn Vaughn
The Mayflower Inn I refer to was in Clarksburg around 1950, for that is where my father was staying when he got the letter. Nancy Hymes McKane
Thanks DOloris I visited myAunt last month and she lives almost around the corner in Laurel Valley, she knew very little about it. I have tried to go to the web site you mentioned and its say it is down for a while. Have you ever come across the name Hymes ? Nancy THanks again

Hi, My name is Doloris Hicks & I think you are looking for the old KSP camp outside of Clarksburg on what is still called the Snake Rock Rd. that runs between Rt. 19 & West Milford. When I was in school, kids wasked for quite a ways from what we called KSP to catch the bus to go to school at West Milford. I can't tell you anything else about it except that was in the 50's & kids were still going to school from there. I think you might get help from Harrison Co., Gen. Society. Try www.dttwv01.org/hcgs/ if that doesn't work, e-mail me & we'll try something else. Good luck. I was out to the camp a couple of times while I was young & it was a very impressive place. Does any one known the location of the Mayflower Inn, I have a letter address to my father back in Dec 1950. Does this place still exist or is it long gone, either was I would like to know where it is or was. Thanks Nancy
Mariana, Thanks again. I really appreciate this. My only concern is that I have sufficient proof. I'll have to see exactly what records they need to see, I guess. Dear List, The other night, Cathy D and I were talking abt Spam Mail. She mentioned that she had received some particularly offensive Spam Mail and didn't know what to do abt it. Actually, there is something you can do abt it and it works. I felt that this was something worth sharing with all of you. Some of you probably already know abt this. I received a Spam Mail tonight and immediately forwarded as an attachment to the server, who happened to be HotMail. You can do this with any server and you don't have to open the Spam Mail. Right mouse click on the Spam which will bring up a window with the option of forwarding as an attachment. Click on that. The address for the Spam attachment is abuse@_______ So my attachment tonight went back to HotMail as abuse@hotmail.com I have also done this with abuse@yahoo.com It should work with any server. Because I live in a state where Spam Mail without a legitimate "opt-out" is illegal, I had some extra leverage. However, reputable servers have a "TOS" or Terms of Service. According to the reply I received from MSN HotMail Customer Support, "It is a strict violation of the TOS for our members to send objectionable material of any kind or nature using our service." The message I received was not even particularly offensive; just irritating. It's very important that you forward the message as an attachment. Each message you receive has properties which will allow a server to trace it back to the original sender. That's how they eventually catch these people. If you just forward the Spam message, the receiving server will not have the information to trace the sender. The person who sent me the message tonight has had his HotMail account terminated. Dear List Members, When I was in WV, I arranged to get a VFW flag for my gt grandfather's grave, and then I decided that he really should have a GAR flag since he served in the Civil War. I contacted Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War duvcw@comp.net and they sent me the applications for membership. Compared to the DAR requirements, the applications are fairly easy. You need proof of lineage; i.e. birth, marriage and death certificates, as well as the military papers proving your ancestor's service. You do not need Census info. When you receive the membership application, there is an explanation of acceptable proofs. The initial cost to join is $26 which includes the first year dues of $6. If, for some reason, you are not accepted, they will refund your money. All women, 8 years or older, are eligible providing that it is a direct lineal descent from a veteran and not through adoption. I sent in the applications for both myself and my 9 yr old granddaughter today, by registered mail. It isn't necessary to do that but I wanted a return receipt. Since my gt grandfather lived and died in WV, I do not plan to join a "Tent" (Chapter), but you have the option of doing that. Hope this will encourage someone else to apply. It's a lovely way to honor an ancestor.
