    3. Hi Susan, I can do Census, marriage and deaths. The deaths end in 1895, I think and the marriages in something like 1905. I don't have the books in front of me so I'm not sure of the dates. Actually, Bill has the look-up books listed on the Wetzel Co website and all the volunteers. In 1900-1920, I only have the Magnolia and Center Dist Census, but there is another look-up volunteer who has the rest of the districts. 3. Hello, I am stumped at the moment on John Boilon / Baylon who married Jean O'Neal. Could be -Boylen, -Boilen, -Boilon, Baylon. Spelled many ways. The below Abner - his marriage record was found under Bailey!! Would like to obtain a death record, census record or some type of record stating his parents. 1) He was PROBABLY born in Harrison County. 2) He married on February 4, 1798 in Harrison County, Virginia. 3) PROBABLY died in Harrison County. It was mentioned to me he and his wife both died about 1810. It is believed they had three children: 1. Thomas Boilen born 1801, Harrison Co., VA, married in Lewis and died in Gilmer Co., VA. 2. Fannie Boilon born 1804, Harrison Co., VA; married Jackson Cottrill; died October 3, 1820 3. Abner Boilen/Boylen born March 10, 1808 Harrison Co., VA; married Margaret Glasscock 1827 Harrison Co., VA; died 1876 Taylors Drain, Barbour Co., WV. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Crystal (Boylen) Boggs cboggs@ncweb.com

    3. Genealogical and Personal History of the Upper Monongahela Valley, WV I would appreciate a "Look-up" so very much. I am searching for any information about James Johnson/Johnston and family who lived near Morgantown (Monongahela River and Wests Run) during the years of abt 1770-1796. James Johnston married Catherine(Caty) See abt 1772. Their children were George, Valentine, Nancy (Ann), Catherine, Amelia and James Johnston, Jr. ( Nancy Johnson/Johnston married William Robinson, Jr. in 1796 in Monongalia Co.) James Johnson/Johnston owned land and lent out money to individuals. He was educated and may have held a public County office of some kind. Any information you may find is appreciated. I thank you so very much for your kindness in taking your time to do "Look-ups". Thank you, Lillian

    1. Re: [WVHARRIS] Re: [Northern Neck books
    2. Hi, First Swiger is in Monongalia Co. Books and the Northern Neck Books are Land grants etc. Here is a description of the books as I saw them. I am pasting it in. And the description of the other one with Swiger is at the bottom of this E'mail. Cathy With this set you will be ready to do some serious research into VA counties and some of those that became West Virginia. All 3 VA Land Grant Books are by the noted Gertrude Gray, in Red, gilt lettering in new condition, (yet a welcome addition to your shelf for more than their appearance). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- FIRST ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1694-1742. [Vol. I] Gertrude E. Gray 184 pp., Indexed. (1987), 1997. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- " The Northern Neck of Virginia comprises all of the territory between the Potomac and the Rappahannock Rivers. The "headright" system, widely used for acquiring land in Virginia was never recognized in the Northern Neck. People wanting to acquire land there had to purchase a warrant and obtain a survey before they were issued a grant. The original Grant Books, now on microfilm, were used in making this collection of abstracts, and they generally provide the following information: the name of the grantee, dates of warrant and survey, date and location of grant, amount of acreage, names of former owners/occupiers, names of adjacent property owners, and often the names of heirs and other family members. Altogether, in more than 2,000 abstracts, over 5,000 early Virginia residents are cited, all of them easily located in the index." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SECOND ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1742-1775. [Vol. II] by Gertrude E. Gray 282 pp., Indexed. (1988), 1993 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- " This second volume in the series has abstracts of all of the grants from 1742 to 1775, a period that saw the formation and settlement of Frederick, Fairfax, Culpeper, Loudoun, Fauquier, and Dunmore (changed in 1778 to Shenandoah) counties in Virginia, and Hampshire and Berkeley counties now in West Virginia. The abstracts show grant book designation, page number, name of grantee, place of residence (if given), number of acres in grant, location of grant, surveyor, adjoining land owners, and date the grant was issued. Altogether, in more than 4,000 abstracts, about 7,500 early Virginia residents are cited, all of them listed in the index." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- THIRD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1775-1800.[Vol. III] by Gertrude E. Gray 293 pp., Indexed. 1993. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- "The third volume in this series treats all Northern Neck land grants from 1775 to 1800. The majority of the grants abstracted for this volume apply to tracts of land in Frederick, Shenandoah, Culpeper, Loudoun, and Madison counties in Virginia, and Hampshire, Hardy, and Berkeley counties, now in West Virginia. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ----- Original Message ----- From: "K J Loccisano" <kjloc@1st.net> To: <WVHARRIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 18, 2000 8:14 AM Subject: [WVHARRIS] Re: [Northern Neck books > Hi, > Cathy, what are the northern neck books and what information about the > Swigers would I seexpect fo find in them? > > Kim Randolph Loccisano > > > -----Original Message----- > From: CID at KID'S CORNER <cathez@teleport.com> > To: WVHARRIS-L@rootsweb.com <WVHARRIS-L@rootsweb.com> > Date: Sunday, September 17, 2000 8:07 PM > Subject: Re: [WVHARRIS] Another book for look ups > > > >Hi Mary, > >I sure will. 1. Re: [WVHARRIS] Another book for look ups
    2. Hi Cathy, I appreciate all the offers you are making to invest your time in performing these look-ups. Sometimes we need just a little more info to get us through a hump, and several of you have given me goldmines in my research. I was wonder if you might have any info on John J. Whetsel/Whetsell/Wetzel b. abt. 1818 m. Rebecca Mayse in Harrison county in 1842, in your upcoming book, Genealogical and Personal History of the Upper Monongahela Valley, West Virginia. I'm afraid I'm trying to connect John J with his parents.(not sure on siblings either) With so many John Whetsel/Wetzels, it's been difficult to determine from where he came. Some of his children remained in Wallace, Sardis District, Harrison County. Any info you could possibly share I would be grateful indeed. Thanks bunches. Yvonne Vongypsy@aol.com
