    1. [WVHARRIS] RIGHTER - SMITH Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Katharine Lucile RIGHTER which was taken when she was 4 months old. There is no studio or location identified on the photograph, however, I believe it was probably taken in the 1890's. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Katharine and her family: Catharine Lucille RIGHTER was b. 9 Jun 1894 in Shinnston, WV to parents Luther Abraham "Dick" RIGHTER (1865-1950) and Sarah Byrd SMITH (1865-1951). Catharine was one of three children born to this couple including Catharine Lucille; Luther Smith; and John James RIGHTER, all born between 1894 and 1906. Catharine married Edmund Clay DENHAM (1894-1968) and together they had one child. Catharine died 11 Aug 1994 in Clarksburg, WV. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Clay, WV: Luther A. RIGHTER, age 35, born Mar 1865, married 8 years, born WV, parents born WV, a Farmer Bird S. RIGHTER, wife, age 34, born Sept 1865, married 8 years, 2 children/2 living, born WV, parents born WV Kathrine L. RIGHTER, dau, age 5, born Jun 1894, born WV Luther S. RIGHTER, son, age 3, born Aug 1896, born WV 1910 census of Clay, WV: Luther RIGHTER, age 45, married 18 years, born WV, parents born WV, a Farmer Byrd RIGHTER, wife, age 44, married 18 years, 3 children/3 living, born WV, parents born WV Catherine RIGHTER, dau, age 17, born WV Smith RIGHTER, son, age 13, born WV John J. RIGHTER, son, age 3, born WV I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. 2. David E. Cann
    3. Hello folks, and welcome back to RootsWeb's newly upgraded list system. If you are receiving this post it is because you are still a subscriber to this list, even though things have been pretty quiet due to a number of issues lately. The lists are back now, and I believe you will like the improvements that have been made. The most obvious improvement is a new RootsWeb login system, which you will find at the following link: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail Only one account per person is needed, and once you have created it you will be able to organize and manage all of your list subscriptions in one handy location. Like anything new there will be something of a learning curve in the beginning, but I really think you will like it for the new security and personalization features for your list subscriptions. And last but not least, please note my email address as List Owner immediately below this message and following my name. Also note the "List information" link below that, which will take you to the information page for this list, where you will find information to help you subscribe, unsubscribe, and some other things based on the current status of your new log in account. I welcome you back to the list, and look forward to working with you in the future tracking down our elusive ancestors. David E. 1. [Harrison Co WV] BOGGESS - SHAW Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of 6 photographs belonging to the BOGGESS Family of West Virginia. The first is a photograph of Mildred BOGGESS which was taken at the Wilson Art Shop in Parkersburg, WV. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Mildred about 3 years old at the time. The second photograph is also of Mildred BOGGESS, taken at the same studio, again in the early 1900's with Mildred appearing to be about 5 years old at the time. The third photograph of Ruby BOGGESS, with no studio or location indicated, it was taken later in the 1900's with Ruby likely in her 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. The fourth and fifth photographs are the same, a photograph of Owen, Mildred, Pearl, and Ruby BOGGESS taken at the Chandlee's Cute Studio, no location. Owen was one of 6 children born to this couple including, William B.; John M.; Samuel C.; Owen J.; Caleb E.; and Mary A. BOGGESS, all born between 1852 and 1865. It appears that Owen was married more than once, with his first wife Margaret B. HUEY he had 7 children including a son James F. BOGGESS b. 1879. Owen's second marriage was to Harriett A. (b. 1868). Owen d. 24 Nov 1924 and is buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV. Ruby Dola BOGGESS was b. 27 Jun 1904, the daughter of Owen J. BOGGESS and Harriett A. HALL. 1. [Harrison Co WV] SADLER - HOOVER Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of William and Minnie SADLER and their daughter Stella May SADLER from Poplar Hill, VA. It appears to have been taken in the early 1900's. A note on the back of the photograph indicates that Stella was born 8 Oct 1900 at Poplar Hill, VA. The couple looks to be in their 20's at the time with Stella a toddler at the time it was taken. A note also indicates that Stella became Stella May HOOVER and had a daughter Claudia. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: William Kemper SADLER was b. 1 Apr 1875 in Giles Co. VA to parents Charles Rucker SADLER (1836 or 1843-1932) and Harriet Jane ROBERTSON (1847-1885). William was one of 7 children born to this couple including, Henrietta; Mary; Eva Ellen; Floyd Rufus Austin; James O.; William K.; and Ora S. SADLER, all born between 1867 and 1875. After the death of their Mother Harriet, their father remarried and had 9 additional children, including, Martha Elizabeth; Charles Henry; Samuel Shannon; John Edward; Nancy Jane; Andrew Bane; Annie Lydia; Dolly Covington; and Bittie King SADLER, all born between 1886 and 1899. William was married twice, first to Minnie SADLER or SADDLER (b. 1878) and a second time to Sally A. SADLER (b. 1877). It is believed that William had 4 children with Sally including, Thomas B. and Grace SADLER born in 1909 and 1911. William died in Jan 1947 in Poplar Hill, VA and is buried in the Sadler Cemetery in Poplar Hill, VA. Daughter Stella May SADLER b. 1901 in Hagistown VA married Claude HOOVER (b. 1895 in Harrison Co. WV, son of Clyde & Elizabeth HOOVER) on 10 Jan 1923 in Hopewell, VA. Stella May's parents were listed as "unknown" on her marriage certificate. Census records provide the following details: 1910 census of Walkers Creek, VA: - living in the home of her guardians William & Maggie E. GIBBONY Stella SADLER, age 10, born VA, parents born VA 1920 census of Walkers Creek, VA: - listed as a companion to William & Maggie M. GIBBONEY Stella M. SADDLER, age 19, born VA I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this SADLER Family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

You need to contact the List Admin directly using the information at the bottom of all list posts. You will also find information on finding the list archives there as well, where you can find all past posts to the list. I hope this helps you. 1. [Harrison Co WV] FROM THE ADMIN: Digest subscribers please note
    2. David E. Cann
    3. Please DO NOT reply to this on the list I'm the Admin of this list, and I would like to ask for your help if I may. This pertains to digest subscribers ONLY, so folks subscribed in list mode please completely disregard it. The current default format on this list for digest posts is called "MIME," which means you will receive each digest as a single post usually once a day with each individual post for that day appearing as an attachment. This is the one exception to what you may have heard about no attachments on RW lists, but these are quite safe to open. To read or reply to one of the attached posts, you simply double-click it to open it, after which you can reply to it if you choose to. Generally, replying to it will require little or no editing or trimming as was needed with previous digests here. I have recently become aware that reportedly A FEW service providers do not receive this type of digests very well, although the large majority of them do. If you are not able to double-click on an attachment and read it properly, then it is possible that your service provider may be one of the very few unable to receive and deliver them correctly. If so, please drop me a line OFF LIST AT MY ADMIN ADDRESS BELOW, and I will return your subscription to what is called "plain text" format as before. Likewise, if you are able to use these digests without difficulty but simply prefer the plain text format used before, then drop me a line OFF LIST using the same address below and ask me to return your digest to "plain text" format. As another option you may want to try list mode, and receive your list posts immediately as they come in rather than wait for your digest up to 24 hours later. If you are having no difficulty reading or using the current digests this way, then there is no need to reply or let me know. I try very hard to reply to all correspondence from subscribers, but sometimes replying to everyone is simply not always feasible. David E. As such, he's pledging to pay to the Commonweatlh of Virginia the face value of the bond, $150, if for any reason the licensed marriage is not performed. (Say for example that someone responds in a positive way to the famous question: whether any person now present knows a reason why this marriage may not be performed...) Usually the surety was a respresentative of the bride's family. In any case he had to possess enough property free and clear to cover the amount of the bond. John Beard was briefly a son-in-law to Moses Hustead, marrying Rachel Hustead in October of 1791 and Mary Unsel (variously spelled) in December of that year. In the case of the October marriage only the bond survives. And like the rest of Bond Book 1, it's not online at www.wvculture.org. 3. Hi Craig, I'm a tad confused. I checked the 1900 Eagle Dist census but T A Davis is Teresa Davis, female. Her husband is listed as Henry S ( H S) Davis. Son, Benjamin B, age 15 is the only child living with them. A granddaughter Allie Ashcraft also is listed. There is a Marion Co Registry of Marriage listing Henry S Davis and Theresa Davis (same surname) as married on Aug 3 1858. No further information on the marriage. I was able to find them in 1870 and 1880 Eagle Dist, with their children. I checked for any male T A Davis, with wife Melvina, in 1900 Harrison Co but this was the only one. 1. [Harrison Co WV] From The Admin: New List Admin
    2. David E. Cann
    3. This is just a note to introduce myself as the new List Admin of this list as of a short while ago. I have been a volunteer List and Board Admin for RootsWeb for a dozen years or more though, so even though new to this list I am hardly new to administering them. I'm a retiree now, so am lurking in the background keeping an eye on things much of an average day these days, but if you ask my wife I'm "in front of that computer all day." I am also a very active genealogist as well, just like most of you are, and I will jump into the conversation whenever I have something to offer just as most of the rest of you do. As for list workings and such, I try to keep things going according to all of RootsWeb's commonly accepted guidelines and practices just as any other list you may be on, so you will not see any changes in that respect. I look forward to meeting and working with you all in the coming weeks and months, and also to sharing our mutual enjoyment (or is it "obsession?") for genealogy. If you need any help with a list operation problem, please contact me at any time by writing to the Admin's address in my signature lines below, or simply post it to the list if it pertains to appropriate genealogy or history of general interest to other subscribers.
