Can anyone tell me if there were marriage records kept as early as 1806 in Hardy Co? Rose
Have you tried http://www.wvculture.org/index.aspx? Click on the "ARCHIVES AND HISTORY" link at the top of the page, then on the next page that opens scroll down the page until you see the header "EXPLORE ARCHIVES AND HISTORY..." and click on the link "BIRTHS, DEATHS, AND MARRIAGES". From the page that opens you can search various Vital Records for some of the West Virginia counties. Marriages for Hardy include: 1792, 1795 - 1796, 1799, 1801 - 1842, 1844 - 1847, 1849 - 1851, 1853 - 1970. This site is a great place to search for WV vital records. I hope you can find what your looking for. I found out that a lot of people that lived in Moorefield and the surrounding small towns actually went to Cumberland, Maryland to get married because they didn't need to get a blood test. That was the case for my parents and my grandparents. I hope this information may help someone. I had ancestors that (family history says - no documentation) were married in Cumberland, Maryland - even though they were living in Moorefield at the time. This would have been in 1817...I can't believe blood tests were required then. I've always wondered why they just didn't get married locally.
