I am hoping one of you can give me some insight. On every census he listed his birthdate as 1799. His wife was Mary, b 1802. He is last shown on the 1880 Gasconade Co, MO census living with his son, Thomas Benton, at age 81. Hardy Deed Book 14, page 487, dated 9 Nov. 1836 shows him having inherited land from his father Leonard. It lists his wife as Polly/Mary. This land is being transfered to Leonard Bonnet - on the waters of the South Fork of the South Branch of Potomac River supposed to contain about thirty-five acres, more or less, and bounded on the N.E. by the lands of A. Stump and on the S.W. by the lands of A. Bonnett. So, the question is who is his father, Leonard? Leonard who married Elizabeth See? Or, although the dates are off, Captain Leonard Stump who married Mary Morrow in 1820 and who died 1826? Or, is *he* Captain Leonard Stump who married Mary Morrow???? ACK! I have also seen his parents listed as Michael II & Sarah Hughes... ?? Confused, Miz Laine in AZ >> DITTO... "Very confused." I sent for a DAR application copy and it only muddies the waters.. the DAR okayed it.. but until proven otherwise, I can't send them a correction.. I descend from the same Leonard and wife, Mary.. found in Franklin Co. MO ca. 1836 w/ a slave and then in Gasconade Co MO in 1850 with his family.... ELLIE <a cousin of Laine>
