Is Kline's Gap near Patterson Creek Mountain and does anyone know which Kline family this area is named for? Thank you, Ruth Bland Barch
Pat, Yes, I believe there must be a connection. Wanda
Pansy, I saw your message on the Hardy Co. page regarding Zena Michael and wondered if you might know anything about a Rachael Michael born Feb 1849. She married Jacob Wise in Hardy Co. 27 Aug 1874. I have not located her in 1850 or 1860 but in Hardy Co. 1870 she is listed in the home of Henry Wise and wife Mary Catherine Swisher as a "domestic servant". Mainly I am trying to prove that Jacob Wise is the long lost brother of my Mary Ann Wise (1823-1893) and was hoping I could find a descendant of Jacob and Rachael who might confirm this. Any help appreciated. Mary Louise Outgoing mail checked by Norton AntiVirus
My family started in Franklin County Pa, on to Medina OH and from there homesteaded in Benzie Michigan. Hi Pat, Some else just emailed me and it's too similar to ignore. I must share it with you to get your thoughts on it. You mention a William Davis Tevebaugh who married Zena Catherine Michael. Well, I believe they must be related somehow because I was given: 1900 Census - Grant County, West Virginia: Rebecca Michael is listed as a boarder in the home of William Davis 1874 and Louisa Catherine 1880. Rebecca born October 1833 age 66 and single. I believe this Catherine to be my great-grandmother. Wanda PS: This is what I just received.... What do you think? 2. At last a question that I know something about. They raised cattle and needed more room than was availabe around Morefield.. As I understand it, in Ohio, the first settlers from Hardy County went to Ross County (Chillicothe), and later arrivals went on to Pickaway, Licking, Fairfield, and Fayette Counties. I have copied several pages from The Hardy County History that discusses this and put the pages in a pdf file at http://home.columbus.rr.com/renicks/HardyCountyHistory.pdf You will need to use magnify to read the pages as the pages are actually pictures. ----- Original Message ----- From: "1930Sue Dietz" <mandsdietz@hotmail.com> To: <wvhardy@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 30, 2006 12:21 PM Subject: Re: [WVHARDY] United Brethren Church & Stover Family > wish i knew the reason for the migration from hardy and northern/western > virginia to licking co. > > anyone got ideas? s > > >>From: "Gary Collins" <gcollin2@columbus.rr.com> >>Reply-To: wvhardy@rootsweb.com >>To: <WVHARDY@rootsweb.com> >>Subject: [WVHARDY] United Brethren Church & Stover Family >>Date: Sat, 30 Sep 2006 10:01:40 -0400 >> >>I am looking for information regarding the migration from Virginia to >>Ohio. >> My ancester, Benjamin Stover and his wife Sarah Chilcutt moved from >> Hardy >>Co. Hi Pat, Thank you for your immediate response; however, I do not believe we have made a connection with our two families unless your William and Zena had the below mentioned children (or are a relative to them). I do not have the names you mentioned in my family tree while having over 20,000 names in it. My grandmother was (E)Stella Grace Michael and born in September of either 1889 or 1891 in Klines Gap, Virginia near Maysville. She married my grandfather in about 1924 or 1925 and they resided in Hardy County. Stella eventually left Hardy County sometime after her husband's death (1940) and moved to Philadelphia, PA with her youngest daughter, Laura. Stella's siblings were Emma who married Rotruck, Clora who married Armentrout, Ernest who married Burgess and Virginia whose spouse is unknown to me. Supposedly, Stella's parent were Catherine Kimble (Kimball) and Charles Michael. Catherine's mother was Rebecca Michael. I don't know if Catherine Kimble and Charles Michael were cousins or not. Family hearsay has been that someone in my direct ancestry line is a Native American. I haven't been able to verify and confirm this information. I have found that my grandmother's sister (Emma) had a Native American in her family but think it was with the Armentrouts. Nor have I been able to locate any information on Stella's parents. Any information you or anyone can share with me will always be greatly appreciated. Once again, Respectfully, Wanda ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In a message dated 9/30/2006 3:39:49 P.M. I ask this question several years ago and the answer I got was that they moved to find additional land for planting. Many of the new areas offered free land to families who would relocate.
Hi Wanda, Will do some further checking because some of the names you mention are very familiar to me, such as Rotruck, Armentrout. Hello - From what I can tell - the Green family in Robert Green's book came from England through Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., VA(WV.) The Licking Co. family descends from William ca 1685-ca 1779 who m. Dianh/Dianna. The line follows their son Regnal's line ca 1705-1814. Hello, my grandparents [William Grant Nazelrod/Nesselrodt and (E)Stella Grace Michael(s)] were from Mathias, Hardy County, West Virginia. They lived next to Lost River State Park in the 1920's until William's death in 1940. Their family previously owned part of the state park's property before it was either sold or given to the park. If there is anyone having any information on my grandparents or any of my relatives, it would be greatly appreciated if you will share that with me. Many thanks, Wanda Baltimore, MD

Are there any Earley family listed. My 2nd greatgrandmother, Martha Earley, was born Oct 19 1813 in VA and I believe family was German Brethern. She married first Valentine Paulus, in Preble County, OH, July 13, 1833; then John Diehl, April 7, 1837 in Preble County; and lastly, my 2nd great grandfather, Samuel Fiant Sept 3 1846 in Preble County, OH. Samuel Fiant was also Brethren (sometimes called Dunkards) from PA. Martha died in Miami County, Indiana Aug 22, 1882. They moved to Indiana prior to 1860.
