Genealogy message groups are all sharing the news about the National Society Daughters of American Revolution - offering a "Volunteer Look Up Service" of their 3 Vol. Patriot Index at this site: http://www.dar.org/cgi-bin/natsociety/pi_lookup.cfm The DAR Patriot Index contains names of Revolutionary patriots, both men and women, whose service (between 1775 and 1783) has been established by the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. Additional information available may include: dates and places of birth and death, name(s) of wife (wives) or husband(s), rank, type of service, and the State where the patriot lived or served. If pension papers are known to exist, that fact will be included. But keep in mind, most local libraries have the Patriot Indexes in their collections, so don't overlook a visit to your local genealogy library. Our two Ohio Valley libraries which include the above Indexes are: Schiappa Library, Steubenville, OH http://www.steubenville.lib.oh.us/ Mary H. Weir Library, Weirton, WV http://129.71.121.130/htdocs/hancock/weir/maryhweir/maryweir.html These libraries also have the 4th Vol. which is the Spouse's Index. This book contains the patriot's wives and their maiden names. And by all means don't overlook branching out to your maternal lines/surnames which may provide additional links to Revolutionary Ancestors. Wishing everyone a new found ancestor, STEUBENVILLE CHAPTER, DAR. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~steubdar/ Julia A. Krutilla, Regent
