On Tuesday, August 1, 2000, 7 - 9 p.m. at the Schiappa Memorial Library, Fort Steuben Mall Drive, Steubenville, OH; the Jefferson County Chapter, OGS will be hosting their August meeting with a Civil War topic regarding our local Ohio Valley Area. Guest speaker, Jeff Evans will present a program on Morgan's Raid through Jefferson Co., OH in July 1863. He is a contributor and writer for "The Battlefield Journal, A Guide to Civil War History", a monthly newsletter. The April 2000 Issue includes his latest article, "John Hunt Morgan, Thunderbolt of the Confederacy" and "Keep Buffington Island Battlefield from Becoming a Gravel Pit". Sample copies of this newsletter are regularly available in the Ohio Room at Schiappa Library. Jeff Evans grew up in Eastern Ohio and in his youth spent several sleepless nights at Camp Clendenning listening to tales about Morgan and his "Terrible Men".
