Hi Everyone, I am pasting below some obituaries that were sent to me by Betty Cain of the Tri-State Genealogical and Historical Society. Hope they will help some of you out. Happy Hunting, Jan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some Obituaries from THE NEW CUMBERLAND INDEPENDENT FEB 17, 1910 H.M. FIGLEY H. M. Figley, a former resident of this place, aged 80 years, died at Neptune, Florida, on January 10th. Word has just been received of his passing away. Mr. Figley was an uncle of John C. Mackey, and when he lived here resided on the Mackey place. Mr. Figley suffered a stroke of paralysis which was the cause of his death. He is survived by his wife, who lives on the Owen Swearingen farm. Mrs. Figley is in her 79th year. When Mr. Figley went to Florida he had expected to have his wife and daughter join him, but meeting with financial reverses and ill health, they never met again. The daughter died and she was buried beside her three sisters in the Nessly burial ground. Mrs. Figley makes her home with a grandson. The deceased was well known in this community. APR 4, 1912 RUHAMA FIGLEY Mrs. Ruhama Figley, aged 81 years, died at her home near the Globe, Saturday evening at 6 o�clock. The cause of death was infirmities of old age. Mrs. Figley is the last member of her immediate family, her husband, who was H.M. Figley, died about two years ago in his 80th year and four daughters have died, leaving her alone. Mrs. Figley has been making her home with her grandson, Frank Herron, for the past two years or more. At the time of her death he was ill with the measles and he is now in serious condition. Mrs. Figley was born and reared on the Roach farm near the Pt. Pleasant Church and has been a life long resident of the county. She was a woman who was liked by all who knew her. The funeral services were held at the Nessly Chapel on Monday afternoon and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Carpenter. Interment was made at the Nessly Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Will Ross and Mrs. Garret Pugh were nieces of the deceased and John Mackey of Moscow and Albert Mackey of Pittsburg, were nephews. The latter was here to attend the funeral. Dec. 4, 1913 ELIZABETH CAMPBELL HERRON Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell Herron a well known resident of Hancock County died at her home in the country on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd . She was the daughter of the late Major and Mrs. Jas. Campbell and was born in New Cumberland on February 10, 1826. She was united in marriage with William Herron on August 31, 1848, and to this union were born twelve children, ten of whom lived to womanhood and manhood. Mrs. Herron had always been very active and enjoying good health until about two years ago when she fell and injured her limb and has been an invalid ever since. She was a life long member of the Pt. Pleasant Church, being one of the charter members and the last one surviving. She is survived by the following children, Buckhannon Herron of Ottawa, Kan.; Clem Herron of Detroit. Mrs. Isabel Konkle, Benedict, Neb.; Mrs. James Freshwater, Chester; Mrs. Alva Chambers, Wesley and Wallace of this county. The funeral will be held on Friday morning at 11 o�clock at her late residence near Point Pleasant. Interment at New Cumberland Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ DEC 4, 1913 WILLIAM CHAPMAN William Chapman, aged 77 years a well known veteran of the Civil War died at Salineville, O., on Wednesday. He was a well known former resident of this place. He served in the war with Compnay F. First West Va., Infantry. James Bradley, T.J. Lockhart and John S. Swaney of this place were in the same company and served with Mr. Chapman. In recent years Mr. Chapman had been visiting Mr. T.J.Lockhart once or twice a year. The funeral services were held in Salineville and the remains were brought to this place for interment
