William Carson and Martha Haney are my great great grandparents. I will send you my WILSON file separately with that information in it, and look for my Carson information and also send it to you separately. All lived in Hancock Co. WV and Westmoreland Co PA. I am hoping that you have additional information that might help connect my WILSON information. Note that one of the sons in the Wilson line was named William 'Wallace' Wilson. Perhaps a connection there? We also have a Carolina Mathilda White. I see both the surnames Wallace and White in your list with the Carsons. --------------278580165A7EB525A89DFC22 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Received: from vm1-ext.prodigy.net ([127.0.0.1]) by vm1.prodigy.net-wfldad with ESMTP; Tue, 13 Jun 2000 12:20:37 -0400 Received: from lists6.rootsweb.com (lists6.rootsweb.com [63.92.80.125]) by vm1-ext.prodigy.net (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id MAA274668; Tue, 13 Jun 2000 12:18:28 -0400 Received: (from slist@localhost) by lists6.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) id e5DGEPG03798; Tue, 13 Jun 2000 09:14:25 -0700 Resent-Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 09:14:25 -0700 X-Original-Sender: alma@cs.cmu.edu Tue Jun 13 09:14:24 2000 Message-Id: <39465E35.CB952C9D@cs.cmu.edu> Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 12:15:49 -0400 From: Alma Whitten <alma@cs.cmu.edu> Organization: Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.7 [en] (Win98; I) X-Accept-Language: en Mime-Version: 1.0 Old-To: WVHANCOC-L@rootsweb.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: [WVHANCOC] hello from a 4g-grandaughter of Alexander Edie Resent-Message-Id: <-PI0lB.A.J7.h3lR5@lists6.rootsweb.com> To: WVHANCOC-L@rootsweb.com Resent-From: WVHANCOC-L@rootsweb.com Reply-To: WVHANCOC-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <WVHANCOC-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/914 X-Loop: WVHANCOC-L@rootsweb.com Precedence: list Resent-Sender: WVHANCOC-L-request@rootsweb.com X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 Hello everyone, My surnames: EDIE, CROXTON, MOORE, CARSON, STEWART My lineage, from where it diverges from Dale Patterson's: Alexander Edie b. 1803 m. The Pioneer Collection, by Dohrman J. Sinclair, 189, small print, soft cover, $20.00 is in print again. It is one of the best little books of our area. Contents include Revolutionary Soldiers and Pioneers of Jeff. Co., OH, early cemetery records (who buried where) , 1850 Citizens Directory of Steubenville, Index to the 1897 Filson's Photographic Centennial Group of 1200 early citizens of Steubenville. (This large photo is available in poster form at the Vivian Snyder Library and an original photo hanging at the Land Office in Steubenville, OH.) Also included is the 1804-1811 Spencer Ledger which includes personal descriptions of pioneers who lived on both sides of the Ohio River from as far away as Pittsburgh, PA, Columbiana Co., to Wheeling, VA/WV. (Remember our pioneers used that river as a fast and convenient method of transportation). Some examples are - "has a big fat good looking woman for a wife", residence - near Chapmans' sawmill on Harmon Creek", or " married to Susy Johnson, dau of widow Johnson; he is going to live on Christian Snider's place or New Salem" as well as credit history stating "proper account" or "Good for Nothing". Also included are business advertisements (Saddler & Harness Makers, Dry Goods, Livery Stables, Cabinet & Undertakers, Oyster & Ice Cream Saloon, Tanner and Curriers, & etc. ) from the early newspapers of Steubenville. Any family researcher of our local Ohio Valley will recognize many of the names looking over the index of this book. And of course the author has included more material on his personal genealogy and connections to his Sinclairs, Hays, McKenzie, Sloan, Ingoldsby, McDonalds, & Lynn - and much much more. This book is again offered by the Jefferson County Historical Association http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohjcha/ which is participating at the Fort Steuben Festival TODAY until 8 p.m. All of their publications can be viewed at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohjcha/Books.htm and are conveniently displayed at this weekend's Fort Steuben Festival for research as well as opportunity for purchase. If you ever make a trip to Steubenville, consider stopping by and visiting Jefferson County Historical Library and Museum - all details of hours and location are on the web page above. Wishing everyone a new found ancestor, JEFFERSON COUNTY CHAPTER, OGS http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohjefogs/ Julia A. Krutilla President

Posted on: Hancock County, WV Query And Surname Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Hancock?read=360 Surname: Ralstons ------------------------- Hello, thanks for the info. Yes my Ralston Roots were from Kings Creek area. I have gathered lots of records on them in Brooke & Hancock area from afar..with the wonderful help of several folks that live in the area, the Brooke Co genealogys society & others. Sharing really works. I have Fanny Ralston Swearingen in our family info too. Alot of The Ralston's are buried at the Three Springs Cemetery and the family lived in the area since 1783 or maybe by 1775? I'm also trying to find out some info on them between 1775-1783 where they were from before they moved to this area. THANKs so much for your reply. Happy Trails on your researching. I know there were Ralstons living in New Cumberland,WVa., I believe Hancock Co. My maiden name is Swearingen and I know there was a Fanny Ralston that was my Grandfathers' age that he went to the same church. I know there were Ralstons in Kings Creek My Grandfather Lyons(my Mother's Father) was from Doddridge Co., Wva. (Salem) A woman by the name of Karol E-mail Wandle2@aol.com thought we might be in the same line as her 1st ancester was William as was mine, but she is of a completely different line of Lyons. Perhaps she may be of some help. That is how I learned about the manuscript. She has traced her Lyons back to Washington Co.Her William was bn in Ireland abt.1778 died 1853 in Washington,Co. I know very little abt. the Ralstons. I can visualize their home near the grange hall on Swearingen Hill but I was very young, I also recall the Methodist Church very close by, but I could be mistaken I wish I could offer you more Carol

I did find a listing for Alice living with Salathiel and James McCandless (my ancestor) in the 1860 Brooke Co, WV census in District Four, Holidays Cove. I believe you have the 1850 census information about them in Hancock Co. Incidently, I was going through my mother's old papers and she had a letter written by you in 1973 to one of her relatives, Helena Runyan. In the Hnacock Co, census and in the 1895 census for Norton Co, Kansas McCandless's birthplace is listed as Pennsylvania, mother and father from Virginia. Some of Mac's children born in PA around 1880's..maybe Salathiel up there with him. Keep me posted if you make any progress. Lisa
