Attention Ohio Valley Family Researchers with Civil War Vets, Just bumped into The West Virginia Archives and History site at http://www.wvculture.org/history/ which has provided a brief regimental history of the First West Virginia Infantry which is reprinted from the Annual Report of the Adjutant General of the State of West Virginia for the Year Ending December 31, 1864 and the entire Roster List for the First West Virginia Infantry Company's A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, & K at: http://www.wvculture.org/history/journal_wvh/wvh55-3.html These recruits and volunteers are from the panhandle of WV/VA, Western PA, and Northeastern OH. Hope you are successful in finding some collateral lines as well as direct ancestors - if you've worked in the Ohio Valley these names are so familiar and this list provides many sad endings. Hi Everyone, Recently, I received copies of some letters that were written during the Civil War. These letters were written by Lt. John N. McCarty b. Sept. 14, 1843 in Washington, PA and d. Sept 8, 1870. John was the son of John D. and Julia Marquis McCarty of Hancock County. These letters were written to his sister, Mrs. F.V. Johnston (Elizabeth), his mother and F.V. Johnston, his brother-in-law. The letters were donated to our site by Nancy Need, who is a great-great-granddaughter of Sarah Caroline McCarty Hobbs, John's sister. I hope that you will enjoy them as much as I did. You may view them at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvhancoc/cwletters.txt Happy Hunting, Janet
