Good Morning I'm trying to tack down the location of ancestors in Hancock County. What I have is the following from census information: Alexander Maxwell 1850 Brooke county WV - District 26 1860 Hancock County WV - Fairview P.O. 1870 Hancock County WV - Grant Township I am most interested in finding out where "Fairview P.O." might have been in 1860. His sister and her husband were most probably buried in this location; he lived with them in 1850 and they don't show up in 1860. I've tried the mapquest option and there is no Fairview in Hancock County (though there are seven in WV). ANyone have any idea where this Fairview P.O. might have been? Josette Maxwell Boone NC
Posted on: Hancock County, WV Query And Surname Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Hancock/10453 Surname: Haughee, Hawhee, Haughey, Haughie, Haughe ------------------------- Our name is Haughee or phonically Hawhee and we have it in Indiana from the 1820 census to present. We know that several of the children were born in Ohio and a couple were born in Pa. One may have been born in Virginia. We can find no names spelled Haughee or Hawhee in any other states. The mother was suppose to be from Virginia and no birth place is listed for the father. We can find no Haughey lines that match the names in our line. Arthur would have been born abt 1755 and Nancy S? in 1765. Her name may have been Smith or maybe Sylvester. Their oldest child listed is Thomas born in 1800. James S. in 1804 in Ohio,Arthur 1805 Pa., Sarah 1806 Ohio, Benjamin 1811 Pa. Elizabeth 1812 Ohio, and Catherine 1819 Ohio. There is also a Daniel born 1810 but is not listed in the Indiana 1820 census and so we do not know where he was born. We have decendents of all the children except for Daniel and Thomas. All in Indiana. Not all the marriages took place in Indiana however at least one Sarah (Sally) to a Jeffers in Ohio. Does anyone have any information on this name or anything with these names in their lineages. I have found very few Arthurs. I beleive that they probably lived in Ohio and Pensylvania on either side of the counties of Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, or Marshall. At least that is my explaination of the back and forth births and maybe they didn't know that WV was not Virginia when Nancy's birthplace was listed.

Tony and Hedy {cc: Mayor Kennedy} Jack Powers has become a serious problem....he is sending follow-on to his previous "hostile" messages to my 'personal' distribution lists. His temperament is out-of-control. I am receiving e-mail from my friends, business associates, and other people in Morgan Hill. They are emailing and asking me, "Who is Jack Powers and what is his problem?" This is unacceptable. Jack's behavior is negative and out-of-control. As representatives for the City of Morgan Hill, I am requesting that you confront Jack Powers on this matter. My communications to Jack have/had been business related to the activities of MHAT-TV. I do not consider Jack to be a friend and never have. He is nothing more to me than a business associate through the television station. I have never been to his home, nor do I socialize with him. Note in particular that my last communication to Jack Powers was in January. There has not been any communication with him in weeks. I also had asked Jack to not contact me in the future myself and that all communication to me should come through Bill Leaman, which he has not done. Since Jack is associated with the local access television station, this certainly gives a very negative impression of the television station. If Jack has resigned or quit the Morgan Hill Television Station activities, this has never been communicated to me. It appears that his 'role' needs to be defined or re-defined. If I need to file a 'formal complaint' with the City of Morgan Hill, I will do that. Here is an underreported news release on LDS's Records of freed slaves "The Mormon Church published records Monday from the post-Civil War Freedman's Bank for newly freed slaves, making ancestral records available for as many as 12 million black Americans. The records have been available for years through the National Archives but not in organized form. The church, formally the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spent 11 years, with help from volunteer Utah state inmates, extracting and linking the 480,000 names contained in the records. "These records can provide clues for an estimated 8 to 10 million African-American descendants living today who might want to research their family histories," said Elder L. Lionel Kendrick, a church official. The Freedman's Bank Records CD can be purchased for $6.50 over the Internet at Familysearch.org, or by calling church distribution centers at (800) 537-5971 and asking for item 50120. You can read the entire report at: http://www.salonmag.com/people/wire/2001/02/27/slaves/index.html

Hello All, I've been asked by Flora Ver Straten to pass the following message to family researchers who may want to participate in the LDS Molecular Genealogy Research Project. This worthwhile event will be posted on the Jefferson County Chapter, OGS Calendar site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohjefogs/calendar/ for those undecided now and who may want to register in the future. Please feel free to forward and share this message with other family researchers in the tri-state area. Julia A. The event will be held on Saturday morning, May 12, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Powells Lane, Wintersville, OH (maps will be made available at local libraries). You must sign up for the research study by contacting the family history director listed below. I hope that each of you will come to hear Dr. Scott Woodward, a world-renowned geneticist, explain this new technology and take the opportunity to have your unique code preserved and analyzed for clues to your ancestor's origins. Sincerely, Flora Ver Straten 740-264-6190 or 740-765-4049 VerStraten@Prodigy.Net Family History Director The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Wintersville, Ohio the Wintersville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will host a special morning fireside meeting with Brigham Young University (BYU) Professor Scott Woodward, PH.D. and his researchers in the BYU molecular Genealogy Research Project (MHRP). The researchers will collect DNA samples and family trees from the general public to become part of the first genetic world family tree. Also speaking at the fireside will be Megan Smolenyak, author of the best selling book, In Search of Our Ancestors. All are invited to attend the fireside. However, only those at least 18 years old may participate in the study itself. After completing a consent form, participants will have a small blood sample drawn and will be asked at that time to submit at least a four generation pedigree chart showing the names of their ancestors along with their birthplaces and birth dates. Collecting individual samples of blood for DNA analysis takes only about ten minutes. The fireside and participation in the study are offered at no charge to the general public. This DNA analysis can prove especially helpful to those whose ancestry lacks surname identification or for whom records were not created, as is often the case with those of African, of Native American and of Scandinavian ancestry. Participation in this project confers additional benefits, to include the following: *Preservation of each participant's unique genetic code for his or her descendants. *Possible cross matching of participants DNA to determine relatedness. *Verifying existing genealogical records *A genetic discrimination between closely related individuals or those sharing the same name. The research team guarantees the privacy of the genetic information gathered, which is protected by both state and federal laws and protected in a high-security facility with access by only project head. More information on the Molecular Genealogy Research Project may be obtained from their official web site at: http://molecular-genealogy.byu.edu/
