I am looking for information on the MAYBERRY/HAAS Surname which I am aware they were at some time in early 1860's were associated with the following names ARNOLD and MOOREHEAD. I need to contact members of the Arnold and Moorehead surnames to determine the connection to Sarah Mayberry dau of Israel and Catherine Haas Mayberry. Grandparents of Sarah were Peter and Mary Haas who were listed on the 1850 Census of Hampshire Co., Va. Sarah age 13 at that time and sister Mary age 21, brother Thomas age 19, brother Francis/Frank age 16. All were on the 1850 Census but, were in different households, i.e. Francis lived in the Simon D or B Taylor household, Mary Mayberry, Thomas Mayberry and Sarah were living with their grandparents Peter and Mary Haas. Apparently their mother had passed away. I am looking for the mother and where she is buried and when she died. Appreciate a look-up in the Hampshire County area. Also, what happened to Mary, Thomas and Sarah. Thanks for any help. Contact Frank Mayberry in 318 North 'G' St., Muskogee, Ok l74403 email: rambo1@oknet1.net

    3. Dear Frank, In Sage & Jones, Early Hampshire Co. Records, there is a will abstract for Peter HASS that seems relevant: HASS, Peter--11-8-1858; probated 1-14-1867. Wife not mentioned. 6 ch., 1-Abraham, 2-William, 3-Nancy Stump, 4-Susan Pancake, 4-Sarah Ach, 6-Elizabeth Cann [error? no no. 5]; grandchildren, Thomas, Francis, Peter and Sarah Mayberry, and Mary Smith. There is also a marriage bond listed for: MAYBERRY, Israel, to Catherine Hass, daughter of Peter. John Myers, bondsman. 3-27-1827. Vicki Horton's Hampshire Co. Records mentions Thomas Mayberry (p. 128) in an abstract from the South Branch Intelligencer, May 20, 1853: "Mr. Editor--As some are trying to create the impression that the announcement of Col. John Johnson as a Democratic candidate to represent this county in the next General Assembly of VA was made solely upon my wish, I deem it due to Col. Johnson and myself to state that it was not made upon my wish alone but upon the wish and concurrence of a respectable number of Democrats some of whose names are here adjoined. J.Z. Chadwick. Wm Sommervile, A McGlathery, I.M. Taylor, Ignatius Middleton, Wm. V. Baker, Robert Roach, Thomas Mayberry, William Wall, S.E. Taylor, James Gill, Joseph Gill, Samuel Blair, Wm Walker, J.Y. Baker." I am very interested in this extract myself--William Wall was my great-grandfather's half-brother, A. (Alan) McGlathery seems to have been associated with the family in some way (good friend?), and I think the Bakers were cousins or something to William (his mother was originally a Baker, Nancy Baker Wall Grenzeback). So please let me know if you find out anything about this group of people! In the meantime, hope the above is helpful.
