    3. Wilmer, was there ever an iron furnace,or an attempt at an early iron furnace in the general Gerrardstown Baptist-North Mt area. I see in O'Dell that the Gunpowder and Principo,Cecil Co iron master,Stephen Oion, owned land on Back Creek. Years ago,I was told John Chenoweth Sr was an iron master. Certainly his Calvert wife had Hollingsworth kinsmen involved in Elkton Furnaces. On Thu, 29 Jun 2000 17:00:14 -0400 "Wilmer L. 1. [WVHAMPSH-L] Stephen Onion--- iron furnace
    2. Wilmer L. Kerns
    3. Herman, Can't answer the question about an iron furnace at Gerrardstown. I do know that Stephen Onion bought land near the area where Isaac's Creek and Hogue's Creek flow into Back Creek in Frederick County (VA). Onion never lived in Frederick County. About 1750, Fairfax reassigned land to Onion that was already owned by Isaac Thomas (for whom Isaac's Creek was named). I studied the site and couldn't determine why Onion wanted it, except that he got two of the creeks on his plat of 1200 acres. As far as I could tell, nothing was developed on that land.
