Howdy, I've a picture of Anthony Edwards' headstone, It says he died on 19 Sept., 1860, the way I read it. In searching my data base, I've no Anthony Edwards, any info would be greatly appreciated. parents, wife, ect. Thanks for your time in advance Jerry Edwards Researching Edwards, Chamberlain, Hiatt/iett/yatt Mote/Patty
Jerry-- Anthony Edwards is in Wilmer Kerns's book Historical Records of Old Frederick and Hampshire Counties, VA. According to tombstone inscriptions in the Episcopal Cemetery at Cold Stream (incidentally, Anthony was a trustee for the Episcopal congregation there, and his father gave land for the church--I have a copy of the deed) and a bible record "in possession of William E. Edwards of Winchester, Va.", Anthony was the son of Thomas and Martha (Keener or Kisner) Edwards, born on Nov. 18, 1786, at Edwards Run, Hampshire Co., and died on the date you mention. His wife was Elizabeth Cram, and they had a rather large number of children, also in the book. I've been collecting deeds etc. for these people as I come across them, as I am descended from Robert Edwards (through eldest son John Wesley Edwards), who I think was the son of Anthony's brother William, but I don't really have a grasp of this family yet, as I have not tried to research them properly or even put them (except for John W.) in my data base (busy with other lines--not to mention earning a living, driving to soccer practice, etc....). What is your line? Best wishes, Martha Grenzeback [email protected] At 11:12 AM 14-09-2002 -0500, Jerry Edwards wrote: >Howdy, > > I've a picture of Anthony Edwards' headstone, It says he died on 19 > Sept., 1860, the way I read it. Martha, I come down from Joseph (The Fort Builder), his son, Joseph's son Samuel, his son David, who married Mary Patty, his son Charles, his son William S(pencer?), Noah, Herbert Sr., Louis, then me. There's a couple more in between in there bothers, sisters, ect. I've been working on a couple problem children Samuel, he disappeared for awhile then reappeared in South Carolina, he was married to a Hannah, no other info, no one in the Newberry Co., is able to help find any thing on him. Then there is William S(pencer), we think his middle name is Spencer, based on a couple of court docs we've got. or being able to find his death date, he died before IL made it law to had a death cert. I've looked all over in the counties around where he died trying to find a probate record or anything and came up ZERO. Also I've been trying to make our way across the "Pond", another big zilch. If you want I can send you what I've got in exchange for Anthony's info.
