Posted on: Hampshire County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Hampshire/1372 Surname: Anderson ------------------------- To Sally Music: Yes my records, which were researched by my g grandfather James H Anderson the gg grandson of William date about 1900. William was born in 1693 in the highlands of Scotland and came to Maryland after the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715. After settling first in Prince Georges County, Md. he relocated to what became known as Anderson's Bottom along the south shore North Branch Potomac River a few miles up stream of what is now Cumberland, Md. William raised a troop of soldiers including his son Thomas and joined Braddock. As the story goes according to William's grandson, William was an officer in the thick of battle and fought vigorously. This seemed odd at his age according to my g Uncle James Thomas Anderson but further checking supported this information. William was a hearty man, he lived to 104. My references are "Life and Letters of T.J. Anderson and His Wife" by James House Anderson and "Biographical Cyclopedia and Portrait Gallery of Ohio" under James H Anderson published 1877. I wouldn't be supprised if a copy Of James H's book wasn't in one or more Mineral County Libraries or certainly the central county library in which Columbus, Ohio is located. You might have trouble with the other reference but if you want a copy of the pertant page send me your address and I'll mail you a copy. The reason for the Ohio references is William's grandson James moved to Ohio around 1806 taking his father Thomas with him.
