Posted on: Hampshire County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Hampshire/1326 Surname: COON ------------------------- WE ARE SEEKING INFORMATION ON THE COON FAMILY IN HAMPSHIRE: JOHN COON settled in Hampshire County (on part of Patterson Creek Manor) in 1774. Between 1774-1782 his son or brother, DAVID, joined him. In 1784 DAVID moved east and leased land near Romney (in Hampshire Co.) from the Decker family. Around 1806 DAVID and his friend, Luke Decker, moved to Pickaway County, OH. Luke returned to WV to marry Ivea Fox and went back to Ohio. DAVID died in Ohio in 1812. He had at least four children: DAVID JR., GEORGE, CATHRINE and REBECCA. We are told that JOHN and DAVID are sons and/or grandsons of the PHILIP Coon who built Coon's Fort in Marion Co. WV around 1774. We could appreciate any information that anyone might have on the COON family in Hampshire County. We descend from DAVID SR.'s son, GEORGE.
