    1. Re: [WVHAMPSH-L] Baker
    2. Dear Sara, Excuse the slow response, I have just moved from Israel to Nebraska and am in the process of renovating a house--but can't give up genealogical dabbling. I am still trying to figure out which Bakers produced my g-g-g-grandfather, Peregrine Baker (1779-1847), who married a Deborah Stockwell and lived in the Springfield area of Hampshire Co. up to his death (going by censuses, tax lists, and estate inventory). I do not yet know who his parents or siblings were--he had at least three children, Nancy (1802-1850, my g-g-grandmother), Lucy (m. William Short in 1827), and Jesse Stockwell Baker (1817-1907), who married the daughter (Sarah) of Thomas and Nancy (Glaze) Baker of Springfield--I'm wondering if they were related (they were near neighbors). I'm afraid I don't know anything about Anthony Baker, but Charles Hill on the Allegany Co. list was researching Jacob and Jemima Baker of Hardy Co.--possibly related? Ross Johnston's WVA Estate Settlements lists a will for Anthony Baker Sr. of Hardy Co., 10-4-1816, Devisees wife Barbara, son Anthony, daughters Elizabeth Harness, Catherine See, and Barbara Frontwine; and other devisees (unnamed in the abstract). There is also an inventory listed for an Anthony Baker, 3-17-1835. Copies of these can be ordered from the WVA Archives, WV University library at Morgantown, or the DAR Library in Washington DC. Let me know if you find out anything interesting!
