    3. Gen Braddock moved from Winchester,Va thru Hampshire,to Fort Cumberland,Md bank N Potomac,and on to defeat s Pittsburg,Pa,in mid-1755. He had under him British troops,but also colonial militia. Va [WV] militia under Va Col George Washington,who was better know for being defeated in 1754 at Fort Nessiry, sw Pa. That was about the beginning of the French and Indian War on the frontiers of Pa-WV, and caused a retreat of pioneers to safer lands than their remote cabins. It was also the age of the building of forts,and I'd like to know much more about Fort Buttermilk, in the Moorefield,WV area.
