Tulehocken,nw Berks Co,Pa had one of the several colonies of 1710 area German, who were spred by the British through their American colonies. Very poor,this colony was 1st sent west of Albany,NY to Cobleskyl,and running into neighbor and land title troubles,some cut thru the backwoods south to Tulpehocken. Late 1730-s-1740's found Michael Harness,b 1-1-1700 ,and others on the South Branch,Potomac. As Tulpehocken was settled from the north,Maxatawny area of sw Berks Co,Pa was settled from the S E-from Philadelphia and nearby. 1710-15,the 1st settlement was Swedes of ex New weden,displaced by the Quakers around Phila. Antoni Sadowski ,the Bird's, and Mordachi Lincoln moved over from Monmouth Co,NJ . Squire Boone joined them Thomas RUTTER started SE Pa's 1st recorded iron furnace. And they were joined by many German's and Swiss. Rutters and Sadowski's and Johnson's,at least ,were on Patterson's Creek,w Hampshire Co, by late 1740's .And whenthey retreated from Indians,they joined many old Maxatawny,Pa neighbors east of North Mt in sw Shenadoah Co,and nw Rockingham Co's Va. Mrs Antoni Sadowski,by now the widow Palmer, left a 1748 Patterson's Creek,old Fredrick Co,Va will of 1748,witnessed by a RUTTER.
