Hi! My wife's great uncle, William Hargraves Fouke, born in Shepherdstown, VA in 1851 (now WV) and graduate of the Brethren Seminary in Mt. Morris, IL in /about 1878 became the Bishop of the Eastern division of the Evangelical Church from 1910 to 1918. I attempted to find his records in the Brethren Church - found that those records were in a repository in Cincinnati and obtained them from there with a small check and after a healthy wait! I am still in arrears (mentally) in regard to the relationships between Brethren, Evangelicals and United Brethren!! I know that Bishop Fouke was successful in uniting several sub groups of the Evangelicals by his administrative skills before becoming the Bishop. Any ideas as to how to distinguish betwixt these religious groups would be neat to know!! Dick Matteson College Park, MD
A History of The Potomac Conference of The Evangelical United Brethren Church was published in the late 1950"s or early 1960's and gives a pretty historical summary of the 3 distinct groups that merged to form the EUB Church. I think it can still be bought from The Library at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, or perhaps borrowed from them on inter library loan. Mike Foreman dickmatt@juno.com wrote: > Hi!
