Too often, we trace out ancestors back to a locality in Europe, and quit, without learning the history there. Perhaps you trace back to the Scotch-Irish,of ne Ireland, and don't hunt a generation earlier in sw Scotland. There were battles where the Highland Scots opposed the Scotch-Irish. Lumping Scotch, and Scotch-Irish is a mistake. And ne Ireland had many Anglio-Irish. You trace an ancester back to New Netherlands, and say 'Dutch" ,while there were many Flemish, and Walloon's,and French there. New SWEDEN had many FINN'S. The southern part of what, today,is called Germany, had many "countries". And the 30 Years War, and the Plague, had depopulated it. I read of one Prince who had only 3,of 200 ,able-bodied men left. I've read of many fields growing up in grubs, because there were no men left to farm them. So,men were recruited from Switzerland, and Austria, and ?? to repopulate it. And these people migrated after a generation,or less. I've asked the Germania,Va researchers, without being a smart aleck, "Were the Germania people Swiss?" because my reading of Swiss history has turned up names ,like those at Germania. . I think of SWISS neighborhoods in the mountian valleys.of the S BRANCH. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
