Linda - (& Genie) - the gap in ages of children listed on census could be explained a number of ways. Most obvious would be that one or more younger than "Adam 30" have already married and moved away from this household. "Jacob, 13" could be Lydia's 'grandson' and maybe (?) Adam's son. Depending on who actually spoke with the census taker, and how it appears on the handwritten form - Jacob might have been 23 . Census takers did/do make mistakes, and the reporting person did not always answer correctly. Finding Adam and Jacob in the 1870 census could verify their ages (but most of us know of many instances of different ages given every 10 years!). Good Luck in your search. Clara in NE
