    3. Hello Lists Thank you for all the responses. Bill Good RE "I have a lookup request in the following article by Charles Morrison entitled "Early Fairfax Land Grants and Leases Along the South Branch of the Potomac," in West Virginia History, V37 (Oct 1976), pp. 1-22." I received the following from Jim Funkhouser in regards to my above query. Morrison, "Early Fairfax Grants...," p. 4 "The surveyor's courses and distances make it possible to draw with remarkable certainty the boundaries..." [Northern Neck Grants O, 72f; Hampshire County Deed Book 2, 124f; Hardy County Deed Book A, 12; ] These are the only references to deed and grant book with two exceptions. Because of the "f." (following pages) I assume that Morrison used a number of deeds and grants in vol. 2 of the Hampshire Deeds and in vol. O of the Northern Neck Grants. The other two deed references: Frederick Co. Deeds 1, p.310 which documents the presence of Peter Thorn and Henry Laucisucs (or Lanciscus) in the South Branch and South Fork valleys by 1744, metioned in Hume's survey of the Frederick-Augusta county line; and Frederick Co. Deeds 13, p. 248 in which Fairfax asserted his claim to Manor lands occupied without a lease and offered to lease. Pp 8-11 list deeds and leases from the Northern Neck books; pp. 12-19 list early residents and lessees drawn from the rent lists.
