Elizabeth, The Blue Ridge Mountains run east of Hampshire County through Virginia and a small portion of West Virginia. It is the Allegheny Mountain Range that runs through the Potomac Highlands in West Virginia, the Allegheny Highlands in West Virginia, Western Maryland, and Pennsylvania and the Laurel Highlands in Pennsylvania. I have a chart of the family and in the 1970's I tried contacting all of the descendants I could find of Edward McCullough. His first wife was Sophia Irvin and she was born in 1834 in Washington Co., MO. She died on 18 Nov. 1861. Their only child was my grandmother, Mary Allie McCullough Livingston born 16 June 1861 in Newton Co., MO and died in my home 10 June 1940 in Groves, Jefferson Co., Texas. She was buried in Waco, McLennan Co., TX. She was taken to her paternal grandparents until she was 9. Then her father came after her and took her to Texas to live with him and his second family. Therefore it has been difficult to get much info from the second family. > > I had planned to go to Ireland next year and unless I can get the McCullough and Irvin families across the ocean, I have decided that there is no point in going. I wanted to go with a group of genealogist who will spend 3 weeks there in July, 2003 doing research. They are from Samford University and I have been with them doing research in London and another year when we researched in London and in Scotland. > > The McCulloughs came over from Ireland when he was young. He was railed "in the Blue Ridge mountains." (I would not consider Hampshire Co. part of the Blue Ridge mountains. Would you:) This is from a biography written by the son of Edward and his second wife. > > Any guidance from you who are also researching in New Hampshire Co. would be appreciated. > > Elizabeth Whitten
