When visiting Hampshire County Library I made a few copies from Civil War Soldiers from Hampshire County, WV complied by Susan R. Crites. This was one of the pages I copied and my question to those who are knowledgeable on the Civil War is the reference to Genera, where/what is this? In what County? Also, is there somewhere I can do further research, CD, book, etc.? If he died in Staunton, would he possibly be buried there also? I have been to the memorial in Indian Mound Cemetery, and took pictures last year. Benjamin was brother to my gr-gr-grandfather. Heare, Benjamin: Served in Captain John H. Piles "Grassy Lick" militia company and transferred to Co K, 23rd Virginia Cavalry, CSA; Enl PVT 09/02/1862 Co K, 18th Virginia Cavalry, CSA, in Hampshire County; DOI 12/30/1863 at CSA Genera; Hospital, Staunton (pneumonia); Listed on the United Daughters of the Confederacy "of Old Hampshire" memorial to Confederate soldiers who died "in defense of Southern Rights at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, Hampshire County. (See History of Hampshire County (Maxwell & Swisher) pg 588-589. Appears on 1966 list of Confederate soldiers from Hampshire County compiled by Susan B. Arnold, former President, Hampshire County, United Daughters of the Confederacy.) Thank you, Kathy Heare Watts
