    3. My great aunt, Lena Ward, married a Swearingen... while researching some of the Hampshire Co Ward info she'd written, I came across the following Swearingen researcher in GenForum. Here is some of her info: (Karel is Karel Whyte) ------------------------- Hope this helps. Karel 14. VAN SWEARINGEN(Sr) (Garrett, Thomas #3), b ca 1694, Pr Georges Co, MD (deposition dtd 1 Mar 1764 states he was then "aged 70 or thereabout", Annals of Augusta Co, VA, Vol 1, p71), d 1787 in Washington Co, MD (will follows). He was known as "Maryland Van". Van m in Queen Anne Parish, Prince Georges Co in 1714, Elizabeth Walker. Elizabeth was b 22 Dec 1695 (records of Queen Anne Parish, Pr George's Co, MD), daughter of Charles Walker who was b ca 1675 and d Oct 1730, and Rebecca Isaac (b ca 1679, Charles Co, MD, dau of Margaret & Joseph Isaac. Joseph d in Calvert Co, MD, in 1688). Charles Walker's will pr 30 Oct 1730, names dau Elizabeth, wife of Van Swearingen. Elizabeth probably d before 1784 as she was not mentioned in Van's will. Van Swearingen served from Frederick Co, MD, in the Fr & Ind War (MD Hist Mag, Vol 9, p369) and his name appears on a 1739 petition list for the county. He built a home called "Fountain Rock", at the present location of St James College in Washington Co, MD. This property was later sold to Gen Samuel Ringgold who built another home. The Ringgold home became the first building of the college which opened 3 Oct 1842. DAUGHTER: 27. Rebecca Swearingen, b 22 Dec 1716, Prince Georges Co (Queen Anne Parish, births, p14), d 1 Dec 1797, Cumberland Co, MD, m on 21 Oct 1738 in Anne Arundel Co, MD, Joseph Tomlinson Sr (b 12 Oct 1712, d 1 Dec 1797, Cumberland Co, MD). Children were James, Joseph, Samuel, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Jesse, Rebecca, John, Drusilla, and Nathaniel. >Dick, I too am researching several Swearingens in PG County - >Thomas(wife Jane Riley) and son Van (b.1719) - and second wife Pricilla >Metcalf[however Van was mostly a factor in Fred.
