    3. Cartmell's book, listed below, has a whole chapter on mills, including some of the early ones. Of course, there were probably countless early mills that are undocumented. And many failed, changed hands, were flooded out, burned down, etc. in natural disasters and wars. They were often small family operations. Cartmell, T. K.
