Encyclopedia of the History of St. Louis : a compendium of history and biography for ready reference. New York: Southern History Co., Haldeman, Conard & Co., proprietors, 1899, 3001 pgs This book, admittedly a secondary source, contains a short bio of John D. Perry, son of Michael and Rachael (Bartholow) Perry. It says John was born on the south branch of the Potomac in Hampshire Co. VA on May 15, 1815. His father was from PA, moved to VA about 1805, operated a flour mill on the Potomac, etc. Perrys were of Scotch-Irish stock. The mother was dau of Thomas and Ann (Nelson) Bartholow, a VA family that immigrated from Alsace-Lorraine to America about 1700. Mother died when John was about 18 mos. old and he and brother Thomas W. were left in care of maternal grandmother. Two yrs later, the grandfather Bartholow moved to sparsely settled western VA and the boy's father Michael died shortly afterward. (The rest is about the son John D. and his career, move to MO, etc.) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Search - Find what youre looking for faster http://search.yahoo.com
