I received several emails tonight about the cemetery project. I cannot speak to any of the issues raised, including those who asked what happened to the donations made by members of this List to help purchase a GPS. One person said to go to Wayne's homepage where it says, "Welcome to the homepage of R. Wayne McGahuey of Gulf Breeze FL 32563" That confirms what he had told me in August, that he had bought a house in Gulf Breeze. That probably explains why there has been no recent progress on the cemetery project. Here is the URL: http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/index.htm Wilmer L. I had sent him a list several months ago of some of the problems that needed to be corrected on the website. Data are not complete in the larger cemeteries, such as Indian Mound, Bloomery Presbyterian, Ebenezer, Timber Ridge Christian, and more. Many of these inscriptions were copied from outdated or dated books or lists, such as Ralph Triplett's books, Dan Oates' manuscript, Iris Dale Kline's records, etc. I realize there were others who contributed info., such as Izetta Barbour (the Leatherman cemetery is not yet online). Among other suggestions to Wayne, I pointed out at least 20 cemeteries that are duplicates (listed as more than 40 different cemeteries-- Jonathan Hiett's was listed four times, some others three times). These are: Augusta Cemetery (# 7) and Methodist Church cemetery (#176) are one and the same. Foltz Cemetery (# 72) and Foltz Cemetery (# 73), same Heiskell Cemetery (#105) and Francis Heiskell Cemetery (# 77) and probably Critton Hollow Cemetery (#47) are all three the same Jonathan Hiett's Cemetery (#133) and Jerry Cemetery (# 132) and Hiett, Jonathan Graveyard (#113) and Hiett Family Cemetery (# 109), all four the same one Enon Cemeteries (#'s 64 and 65) Could Frog Hollow Cemetery (# 81) be the same as Foreman Family Cemetery (# 74)?? I am sure. Could Hartman Cemetery (# 99) be the same as Hartman/Leatherman Cemetery (# 98)? Hockman (#'s 118 and 119), same King Cemeteries (#'s 142 and 143), same Kump Family Cemetery (# 148) and North River Mills (# 195) same Little Cacapon Cemetery (# 157) and House-Johnson Cemetery (# 123) and Shade Cemetery (#262) are all three the same one Long Cemeteries (#s 158 and 159); check these to make sure they are not duplicates. Pierce Noland Cemetery (# 224) and Noland Cemetery (# 196), are the same Pepper Cemeteries (#'s 218-222), there is at least one duplication here and probably two and maybe three. Quaker Cemetery (# 237) gives a location of Fawcett's Gap, which is between Gore and Winchester in Frederick County. Right? Why is this one on the list? Saville Family Cemetery (# 253) is misnamed- it should be Philip Shanholtzer, the historic owner of that farm and he was the first burial there, as I have mentioned several times in private emails Saville Cemeteries (# 257 and #259) both appear to me to be the Oliver Saville Cemetery-- same. You have not been to either. I believe there is a duplication on Taylor cemeteries, but I must stop here due to time constraints. ========================================================== Quoting from an email on August 28, Wayne told me "Linda and I bought a house in Gulf Breeze FL." I presume that he is now living in Florida. It would be nice to hear from him re his status. Based on the current state of the project, I doubt that it will be completed in time for a 2004 publication. Based on my knowledge of the cemeteries, not even a half-way mark has not been achieved. What happened to the 40 cemeteries that were going to be identified between Points and Paw Paw? Inscriptions not only need to be copied but must be verified (edited). For example, Wayne lists John S. Kerns in the Bloomery Presbyterian Cemetery with a death year of 1817, age 80 years. Actually that was his birth year, as the Bloomery Cemetery was not opened until 1825-1826. There are numerous errors and omissions in that cemetery. It would be a disservice to publish what is currently on the website. (Note: I am not a spokesman for this project, but only an interested, long-time researcher in Hampshire County). Wilmer L. Kerns -----Original Message----- From: Wilmer L. The last I heard from you, I believe you were considering property in Florida. Please bring me up to date on your plans and progress. Thanks. Wilmer L. Kerns -----Original Message----- From: R. Normally, I don't announce that I have transcribe and placed it out without personally going to the cemetery. But, I will be going on vacation for 2 weeks and won't have time to visit the cemetery and make corrections as well as make the additions to the listing. Hopefully, this will help someone do the research they want with what names Dan put in his inventory. When I get back in 2 weeks, I will finish the work by going to the cemetery. And at that time, since it is a big cemetery, anyone that is around on the day that I go, please let me know if you would like to help with the reviewing and walking among the ancestors of Hampshire County. I will see my emails tomorrow, but after that, I will be off the air.
