    3. I received a letter giving me the amount they wanted and sent it Nov. 26. I called last week and asked to speak to Ms Link. She said "she didn't have time to copy them right no.". In all fairness, I have to say she hasn't cashed the check yet but she would give me no idea of when she WOULD have time. The gentleman who was cut in on the indexing also got a check for the surnames--$5. a surname--right--that was $5 for each person even though all four names I ask for had the same surname. I am willing to pay but sure hate to get reamed in the process. However, they hold all the cards so I paid. If I receive any copies, I will be glad to let the list know. Hey, I'll be so delighted, I'll INSIST on letting the list know. Here is what the Introduction states: "The first number following the name indicates the number of white tithables. The second number indicates the number of common horses, and the third number, when shown, indicates the number of slaves over the age of 12." >Hi Ruth, > >Thanks for the information you sent. 3. Dan, I haven't a clue... it's something about the number of adults with horses, or something like that. I don't understand it... maybe you could forward this to the listserve and those who are experienced with genealogy documents could let us know. ruthie b >Hi Ruth, > >Thanks for the information you sent. 3. Seeking information on the following Evans who were in Hampshire County, VA (now WV) in early 19th century: James Evans, on 1810 and 1820 census Caleb Evans on 1810, 1820 and 1830 census. Married to Eve Wadell. Moved to Ohio in mid 1830's. Had sons: Abel, David, Peter and Alexander Benjamin Evans on 1820 Hampshire census and then on Hardy census for 1830, 1840, 1850 and 1860. He married Priscilla Bosley (may have been common-law) Their children were Jacob, Edward (Ned), Abraham, Nancy and Elinor. Benjamin stated on 1850 census he was born in PA. We do not know the relationship between James, Caleb and Benjamin. This is a 20 plus year futile search so far. Hope someone out there can help make our day. Mike Foreman

    3. I'm not Carol, but I can see if Carol finds the same thing I did while looking for a Hampshire Co Tax Book (1800-1814). A Henry Woolery is shown in the Lower District Hampshire Co Tax record with a 1-2 to the right of his name for the years 1800 through 1812. In 1813 there is a 2-2; in 1814 there are two Henry Woolery's, the first with 1-2 and the second with 2-2. -- Ruth E.
