I've seen "The Glebe" on old Hampshire County maps. It was toward the southern, left corner of Hampshire County. Presumably it was a city. Thelma-- Most if not all of the Church of England parishes had Glebes. It is land that belongs to and is adjacent to the church. Originally, it was supposed to provide acreage so the pastor could work it & provide for his family. Later, some leased it out & used the $$ to pay the preacher to provide for his family. Don't know if you wanted to know all that or not :-) Donna > > Is there or was there a Glebe in Hampshire County as that is what is on the back of > the picture I asked about? > Thelma
Is there or was there a Glebe in Hampshire County as that is what is on the back of the picture I asked about? Thelma
I have a picture of Harvey in Hampshire Co. addressed to a Olive Rebert. I have this picture scanned if anyone is interested. He is wearing a hat on the back of his head and I do believe I have other pictures of him. He is standing like on an edge of a hill and below is a barn with what looks like a new roof going on beside another much older building. Beyond the buildings you can see a road If interested email me: thelma1@flash.net Thelma

I don't know how many books I just discovered! Many ! I'd known of some digital libraries-I have several aleady book-marked. If the assistant told you that since it was an election year they may not get to your request, I hope you will write a letter to the editor and put that quote in the letter with the hope that it will bring a candidate forward whose goal would be to serve the public at all times. As an elected clerk of court in another state, I am chagrined and apalled that any clerk or assistant would make such a statement. Our duty from the moment we take the oath of office until the last minute we are on the job is to perform the duties of the office and to make certain that ALL CITIZENS are given equal service and treatment under the law. You campaign on your personal time, not the public's time. Michael M. Wish we could vote in Hampshire County. They would be a change if it were up to me. They know we are from out of the county. ----- Original Message ----- From: Brad and Martha Duling <duling@citynet.net> To: <WVHAMPSH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 02, 2000 10:12 PM Subject: Re: [WVHAMPSH-L] Hampshire Co. records > Speaking of the Hampshire County basement records -- I called the > courthouse Monday to inquire about Mr. Rice, specifically if he is still > working on the material. Speaking of the Hampshire County basement records -- I called the courthouse Monday to inquire about Mr. Rice, specifically if he is still working on the material. I was told by one of the clerk's assistants that because of all the flap that he had received Mr. Rice had quit the task. She instructed me to send my request to Ms. Link and if they had time they would do lookups. However, since this is an election year they may not be able to get to genealogy requests very quickly. I did mail my request and if I get any reply I will let the list know. My Lawyer charges $ 125 an hour and it only that cheap because I have been his client for several years. Big time New York lawyers get up to $500 and hour and all they can get on the side. -----Original Message----- From: Redds72357@aol.com <Redds72357@aol.com> To: WVHAMPSH-L@rootsweb.com <WVHAMPSH-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, February 02, 2000 9:18 AM Subject: Re: [WVHAMPSH-L] Hampshire Co. records >Last time I asked for something they forwarded the info to someone telling me >she will only charge me 15.00 an hour...It seems hard to think of anyone in >the whole town making that much other then Doc.or Lawyers. > >
Sherrie: Are you planning to volunteer to look up all the requests you are gonna get? Are yougoing to charge? Can you arrange to have it posted? Sherrie-- I wonder if you'd be willing to check your index for the following: SHORES, Thomas James, s/o Thos Lander--always there, relationship unk. READ/REED/REID, John Jeremiah had an ordinary Jemima poss dtr/o John MARKWOOD/MARKWARE/MARQUART, John Lucy poss dtr/o John If you know what time period these records cover, I could possibly eliminate 1 or 2 from the above list. Thank you, I am so hopeful you will be willing to do this. I live in CA with failing health & tho I would like to, I won't be getting to WV & VA again. Donna
If you have time please check for the name John Bane or Mary Catherine Bane. Thanks Helena CLease5549@aol.com
$15 per hour is reasonable for a good researcher. I know of some that charge $25 or more. Of course, I have also seen some who charge only $6. If you want someone who is good and will really get into the deepest of records, you usually have to pay. If you get a good one, it will be cheaper than going there yourself with expenses. And, if they are familiar with the courthouse they may find things a stranger will never find. I have seen it happen. If I have missed the point of this email, sorry...Lyle
Last time I asked for something they forwarded the info to someone telling me she will only charge me 15.00 an hour...It seems hard to think of anyone in the whole town making that much other then Doc.or Lawyers.
Could you do a look-up for the name Moreland or Ray? Ida Bell Ray Moreland. Supposedly her father died when she was an infant & she just used her step-father's name of Moreland. She was born Oct. 3, 1872 & had a twin (know nothing about the twin). Any help is appreciated & if there is a charge I'll gladly pay, just let me know. Thanks. Dear Sherrie, So you have found the treasure in the basement! Wonderful news. My immigrant ancestor from England might be in there somewhere. His name was Daniel Stephen RADCLIFF, often went by plain Stephen. Time frame was ca. 1738 to 1786. Appreciate any and all data on Ol' Daniel. Thanks so much.
