    1. [WVHAMPSH-L] Richard Little
    2. Are you looking for a Richard Little? Again or yet I'm still looking for info about Elizabeth Little. Elizabeth Little, lived in Hampshire Co. VA in 1850. In 1860 census she was living in Preston County, Virginia. District # 3, with David H. Stewart and his wife Aryan/Airy T. Little Stewart and family. Elizabeth is listed as 75 years old and female. In the space for Occupation Elizabeth is shown as "Widow C". I don't know what that means. I sent for George Little's Rev. War records. Her served as a fifer. They show George was married to an Elizabeth. But considering the dates I doubt George is this Elizabeth's husband. In 1844, Richard Little was a witness for Elizabeth Little to receive a pension from George Little's service. There is a note on the Rev. records suggesting the Little family had lived in Adams County formerly York Co. Pennsylvania. Perhaps someone is looking for info about a Richard Little in Hampshire Co. VA. in 1844. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Try it today - there's no risk! 1. [WVHAMPSH-L] Daniel Taylor
    2. phil cartmille
    3. Hi all, I am new to the list. I am trying to find the father of my gggg/gf Daniel Taylor, who was b. 1758 in Monmouth Co. NJ. He moved to Hampshire (Reese's Mill) about 1783 and died there in 1844. He served in the Rev War. I am trying to put the various NJ Taylor clan together to hopefully find the father of Daniel. I thought that I would post this query in Hampshire in the event that someone there might have a clue or a suggestion that would help. One of Daniel's sons, Edward, m. Margaret Means, and they had 13 children, one of which was my gg/gf Warner T. Taylor, who came to Ohio about 1825. There seems to be a lot of Taylor history in both Monmouth Co. NJ, and Hampshire Co. VA, but so far I haven't been able to link them. Any help would be appreciated. I will share what I have from Daniel to present. Thanks, Phil

    3. Douglas, I forgot to add that Mr. Rice's index can be seen at the courthouse and at the county library down the street. Also, according to a message that appeared on the list, Mr. Rice resigned from the project before all the records were indexed. Elaine

    3. To make a long story short, some very old records (late18th-early 19th century) were discovered in the Hampshire Co. Courthouse basement last year by Mr. Rice. Mr. Rice, a private individual from another county, was granted sole access to the records and commenced to create an index of the records and place the documents in acid-free sleeves at his expense. Other people were allowed to see his index, but not copy it. A great furor arose over the situation, and Dr. Armstrong (an expert on preservation of old documents from, I believe, WVU) was consulted. Mr. Rice resigned from the project and is publishing his index. Patti's message from Dr. Armstrong explains the current status of the situation. Anyone wishing to read the MANY messages that flew back and forth on the list should check the list archives. Douglas Armstrong wrote: > Which records are these that are being discussed? 3. Patti, Thanks for keeping us up to date on this subject. Let's just hope that Dr. Armstrong's recommendations are accepted by the County Commissioners. I'm glad that the records are receiving better storage now. Elaine

    2. There is a site, www.maptech.com that you can search for topographic and nautical maps and such. You enter the town and state at the bottom. I checked and there is an Alkire Mills that looks to be about latitude 38 longitude 80. There may be more, I just did a quick check. Deborah

    2. If you can find the David Armstrong Correspondence or Letters site on the Web, Alkire is mentioned. I thought it was a town but perhaps not. I did a google.com search recently and couldn't find the site. Maybe his name is Daniel rather than David Armstrong. I had it bookmarked as a favorite but lost it. Gary Radcliffe

    3. In response to my earlier inquiry related to land Maunus Alkire acquired adjacent to land of Jacob Reed and Col. Does anyone know where Alkire Mountain is or was located? James Mitts

    3. Still seeking ANY information on the following: Caleb Evans and wife, Eve Wadel, settled in Hampshire County, VA (now in WV) circa 1800. Thye had sons Peter, David, Abel and Alexander. Also had daughters but names unknown. Caleb and Eve were married in Frederick, MD. In the 1830;s Caleb and Eve went to Ohio to live with a daughter and they died there. Sons remained in VA. Where was Caleb from? Who were his parents? Who were his siblings? Benjamin Evans was in Hampshire County also by 1810-1815. Lived near Caleb. He married Priscilla Bosley. Their children: Abraham, Jacob, Edward (aka Ned), Nancy and Elinor. By 1830, they were in Hardy County, VA (now WV). Benjamin stated on 1850 census he was born in PA and his birth date would be circa 1778. Who were Benjamin's parents? Who were his siblings? This is a 20 year search that so far has been one of invincible futility.
