    3. Hope this helps someone~~ Biographical Record and Portrait Album of Tippecanoe County, Indiana, 1888, pp. 477-478 E.R. KENNY, proprietor of High Point Farm, section 15, Wea Township, is one of the prominent and enterprising agriculturists of Tippecanoe County. He is a native of Butler County, Ohio, born October 26, 1821, a son of JONATHAN W. and EDITH (RICHMAN) KENNY, both of whom were natives of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In the fall of 1839 they immigrated to this county, and purchased the land now occupied by the subject of this sketch, where they made their home until their death, the father dying in August, 1844. The mother survived her husband until September, 1876, dying in her eighty-sixth year. E.R. KENNY, our subject, was reared to the vocation of a farmer, and received his early education in the district schools of his native county, completing it at the Lafayette, Indiana, High School. In 1851 he married MISS ANN ELIZABETH LUDWICK, a daughter of JOHN and EVELINE (KELLY) LUDWICK, who were natives of Hampshire County, Virginia. Her parents were among the early settlers of this county, coming here in 1835, residing here until 1860, when they removed to Champaign County, Illinois. MR. and MRS. KENNY are the parents of four children, named HORACE GREELY, PIERRE IRVIN, WILLIAM BARR and MARY E. In 1850 MR. KENNY was elected township trustee, being the first elected after the change in the law providing one trustee for each township. This position he filled for one term, discharging the duties of this office in a manner creditable to himself and to the entire satisfaction of his constituents. For a number of years preceding 1859 he held the office of township treasurer, and during the late civil war he was treasurer of the township war fund. This fund, which was raised by subscription, was used for the purpose of hiring substitutes to fill up the township quota, and in this position he frequently had thousands of dollars in his possession at a time. He was also for a number of years treasurer of the Central Gravel Road Company, and afterward was elected president of the company, which position he held until the company sold out to the county. So fully did he enjoy the confidence of the community, that during the years he acted as treasurer he was never asked to give security for the large sums of money he handled in the discharge of his duties. For several years MR. KENNY has been engaged in the raising of thoroughbred registered short-horn cattle, and is the owner of one of the largest and best selected herds of his variety in the county. In politics he was in early life a Democrat, casting his first presidential vote for James K. Polk. He left the Democratic party about the time of the Missouri Compromise, since which time he has been an ardent supporter of the Republican party. In his religious training he was reared a Methodist, and has always adhered to and assisted in the support of that denomination, although not a member of it. He takes an active interest in the welfare of his township and county, and is numbered among the public-spirited men of the community in which he has made his home for so many years.

    3. Seeking information on the following for Virginia/West Virginia: Caleb Evans and wife, Eve Wadel, settled in Hampshire County, VA(now in WV) circa 1800. They had sons Alexander, Abel, David and Peter and unknown daughters. In the 1830's Caleb and Eve moved to Ohio to live with one of the daughters. Sons remained in Virginia. Where was Caleb from? Who were his parents? Who were his siblings? Around 1810, a Benjamin Evans settled near Caleb in Hampshire County. He was married to Priscilla Bosley (may have been a common-law marriage). Their children were: Abraham, Jacob, Edward (aka Ned), Nancy and Elinor. By 1830, Benjamin and Priscilla were living in Hardy County, VA (now WV) and remained there until their deaths in the late 1860's. Benjamin stated on 1850 census he was born in PA in 1778. Where was Benjamin from? Who were his parents? Who were his siblings? Was he related to Caleb? Thanks...Mike Foreman

    3. Dear Frank, In Sage & Jones, Early Hampshire Co. Records, there is a will abstract for Peter HASS that seems relevant: HASS, Peter--11-8-1858; probated 1-14-1867. Wife not mentioned. 6 ch., 1-Abraham, 2-William, 3-Nancy Stump, 4-Susan Pancake, 4-Sarah Ach, 6-Elizabeth Cann [error? no no. 5]; grandchildren, Thomas, Francis, Peter and Sarah Mayberry, and Mary Smith. There is also a marriage bond listed for: MAYBERRY, Israel, to Catherine Hass, daughter of Peter. John Myers, bondsman. 3-27-1827. Vicki Horton's Hampshire Co. Records mentions Thomas Mayberry (p. 128) in an abstract from the South Branch Intelligencer, May 20, 1853: "Mr. Editor--As some are trying to create the impression that the announcement of Col. John Johnson as a Democratic candidate to represent this county in the next General Assembly of VA was made solely upon my wish, I deem it due to Col. Johnson and myself to state that it was not made upon my wish alone but upon the wish and concurrence of a respectable number of Democrats some of whose names are here adjoined. J.Z. Chadwick. Wm Sommervile, A McGlathery, I.M. Taylor, Ignatius Middleton, Wm. V. Baker, Robert Roach, Thomas Mayberry, William Wall, S.E. Taylor, James Gill, Joseph Gill, Samuel Blair, Wm Walker, J.Y. Baker." I am very interested in this extract myself--William Wall was my great-grandfather's half-brother, A. (Alan) McGlathery seems to have been associated with the family in some way (good friend?), and I think the Bakers were cousins or something to William (his mother was originally a Baker, Nancy Baker Wall Grenzeback). So please let me know if you find out anything about this group of people! In the meantime, hope the above is helpful.
