I will see if I can find any of the references you mentioned. If I can't I will have you copy the page for me. I can't believe how old some of these people were when they went to war or moved to an unsettled area with all its hazards. I descend from Agnes Ann "Nancy" Anderson who mg William Henshaw.
Kathy, I'm just starting to do research on my See/Zee family in PA prior to coming to South Branch Valley in the 1740s. Sees were neighbors of the Parson family on the South Branch, and I also find the Lorentz name in Berks Co PA as well, I'm wondering if these were all part of a group who came together to SBV. Can you tell me anything about Lorentz or Parsons prior to coming to South Branch? Posted on: Hampshire County, WV Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/WV/Hampshire/1372 Surname: Anderson ------------------------- To Sally Music: Yes my records, which were researched by my g grandfather James H Anderson the gg grandson of William date about 1900. William was born in 1693 in the highlands of Scotland and came to Maryland after the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715. After settling first in Prince Georges County, Md. he relocated to what became known as Anderson's Bottom along the south shore North Branch Potomac River a few miles up stream of what is now Cumberland, Md. William raised a troop of soldiers including his son Thomas and joined Braddock. As the story goes according to William's grandson, William was an officer in the thick of battle and fought vigorously. This seemed odd at his age according to my g Uncle James Thomas Anderson but further checking supported this information. William was a hearty man, he lived to 104. My references are "Life and Letters of T.J. Anderson and His Wife" by James House Anderson and "Biographical Cyclopedia and Portrait Gallery of Ohio" under James H Anderson published 1877. I wouldn't be supprised if a copy Of James H's book wasn't in one or more Mineral County Libraries or certainly the central county library in which Columbus, Ohio is located. You might have trouble with the other reference but if you want a copy of the pertant page send me your address and I'll mail you a copy. The reason for the Ohio references is William's grandson James moved to Ohio around 1806 taking his father Thomas with him.

Gen Braddock moved from Winchester,Va thru Hampshire,to Fort Cumberland,Md bank N Potomac, and on to defeat s Pittsburg,Pa,in mid-1755. He had under him British troops, but also colonial militia. Va [WV] militia under Va Col George Washington, who was better know for being defeated in 1754 at Fort Nessiry, sw Pa. That was about the beginning of the French and Indian War on the frontiers of Pa-WV, and caused a retreat of pioneers to safer lands than their remote cabins. It was also the age of the building of forts, and I'd like to know much more about Fort Buttermilk, in the Moorefield,WV area. Reply to postings of Wilmer Kerns & Elaine - The Grand daughter of this David Foreman, Mary, 1814-1888, married Solomon Cooper, 1835, B @ 1805-D 1845. They died in Noble Co, Ohio. The Mother of Mary is buried in this cemetery. (Foreman Cem, AKA Frog Hollow Cem). Her name was Sophrana Frances "Fannie" Kidwell FOREMAN. A brother of this Solomon was my GG Grandfather, Jacob Cooper, 1799-1875. He lived by Cold Stream & operated a store at Cold Stream for several years. Which brings me to the reason I'm jumping into this conversation - maybe someone reading this will connect & we can share information. Darrell Cooper On Fri, 25 Aug 2000 23:54:47 -0400 "Wilmer L. Wilmer K., Thanks for the lead on Frog Hollow Cemetery. I pulled out my copy of your book, but found nothing on my g-grandmother's sister. She was Sarah Eleanor Moreland, married a Huff in the mid-1850's, was widowed apparently during the Civil War, was found living in eastern Allegany Co. in 1870, remarried a Goldsborough there in 1870's, was widowed again in 1891, and died in 1918. I'll just have to keep looking. Thanks again. Elaine
