    1. [WVHAMPSH-L] Kent and Johnson Families
    2. Karen Conley
    3. Hi List: I am searching for any information on the Kent surname in Hampshire County, especially a John and Jesse Kent. Jesse moved to Ross and Pickaway Counties in Ohio in the late 1700s to very early 1800s. Also, an Oakie Jonson was connected to this family. I am trying to learn if these people were related in any way to my Kent family, which came to Pickaway County, Ohio from Virginia around 1831. Any info at all will be much appreciated. Thanks! 3. Is this Williams Family Cemetery near a warm springs or hot springs in Hampshire? My Williams ancestors lived here in late 1700s and 1800s. They had a big family, headed by Thomas Williams and wife Elizabeth Dawson. 2. I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on Jane Rainey (Miller). She came to Hampshire County from Clearfield Co., PA. She had a sister named Susan Rebekah who lived in the Slanesville area. Jane's father was John D. Miller and her mother was Susan Bailey Miller. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    3. Wayne, I don't have a copy of Dan Oates's cemetery inventory. The Romney library has one though. As far as I know, Berg was not a family name. At some point the house was called "The Berg". As I recall the people in the cemetery are descendents of Isaac Means - surnames Taylor and Williams. One of Isaac Means's daughters or granddaughters married one of the sons of Daniel Taylor, the Rev War Vet buried near Reese's Mill. Then their daughter married a Williams. I don't remember what this cemetery is called in Danny's publication. The gravel storage area where the cemetery is located is posted with BIG No Trespassing signs. I think I know who to ask to get permission to go in and read the stones. I'll check on this in the next few weeks. 3. Cheryl, "The Berg" is Isaac Mean's house that passed into the Williams family. The house sits at the corner of Rt. 50 and Fox's Hollow Rd. The graveyard is in the middle of the gravel storage area next to Fox's Hollow Rd. to the north of the house. There used to be a huge barn between the house and the cemetery but it burned down in the 1950's because the hay stored in it heated up. I think Danny Oates inventoried this cemetery. Morgan Cemetery -- MAY be over in Berkeley County, at least GNIS shows one over there. Aline Family graveyard -- absolutely no clues "The Berg" -- Somewhere around Romney -- Jane, would you know? Shannon -- in Springfield, WV, but not on GNIS Fairchance -- absolutely no clues McIntyre -- absolutely no clues Sugar Hollow -- absolutely no clues Context for all of these implies they're in a "reasonable" distance of Romney. However, I'm unable to tell whether some of these are possessive usage rather than nominative usage -- Hilton's (where Hilton lives) as opposed to Hilton's house (which Hilton owns) or as opposed to Hilton Hotel (the name of the bulding) or Hilton Head (the name of the town). That might make McIntyre cemetery the cemetery USED by the McIntyres rather than one named McIntyre. Still, I found county residents reported buried in these places, and figured I should mention 'em. 3. Are deed records available that would describe the exact location of the MAC land? Could one then assume that the MAC/? Cem would be on or near that location? 3. Greetings one and all, My last update for the night. This one is to the Pepper Family Cemetery. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/pepper.htm I met the owner of the land and we talked a while out there in the pasture. He told me that his family made the fence around the cemetery years ago to keep the cows off and that he (Tim Ried) had made the fence around the Bloxham Cemetery as well. Today I took my dog with me and he enjoyed the cows sniffing him. He liked jumping in the cow pies, and smelling every one of them. And guess who wasn't allowed in my truck until I washed his paws. This was the last cemetery for the day. As you can see I did do alot. If anyone out there has good directions to a cemetery that you wish me to find, I will do everything that I can. One of the cemeteries that I want to find is on the USGS maps, and it appears to be in the middle of know where. Somewhere on the SouthEastern most corner of Hampshire Co. around Dutch Hollow. I see it on the map, but have to figure out how to get to it. I see that Warden Lake is South of it and there appears to be a road to it, dirt Jeep road, there is also a road from Rio, but if anyone knows an easy way to get to the "Picnic Area" at Warden Lake, by Wardensville, please let me know. Maybe we can do some serious 4-wheeling. Good night. 3. Greetings one and all, Today I went to several cemeteries. One of them being the Saville/Kline Cemetery. This listing of the people in the cemetery isn't complete at this time, as there are a few names and dates missing, as will as the inscriptions. I took photos of each stone thinking that I could read them when I got home, but no such luck. If anyone has a completed listing of the people, could you email them to me so I can place them on the website. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/saville2.htm Have a good night.
