    3. Jean, What evidence do you have to support Benjamin Brady's wife's name as Barbara Dunlap? I have also seen her name listed as Barbara Miller. But no one with whom I have corresponded seems to have the evidence to support any of these names! From his Rev War pension application, we know that Benjamin Brady was born in York Co., PA, 14 April 1761. I would love to know who Benjamin Brady's parents were. His pension application says he moved to Loudoun Co., VA in 1765 where he lived until he joined the militia. Then he lived in Winchester, Frederick Co., VA for 4 years after his discharge. He moved to the Cumberland, MD area when he received acreage in return for his Rev War efforts. Jane At 12:12 AM 10/23/02, you wrote: >Would anyone know the parents of Barbara Dunlap? See >her > >1. 3. In follow-up to what Jane posted, Wilmer Kerns, in his "Historical Records of Old Frederick & Hampshire Counties, Va.," has the following notes: p.91--"Minutes of Crooked Run Baptist Church list members of the church, including 44 charter members of 1790. The following names are presented in the same order as found in the church record book: ...Mary Blue (Wife of Garret Blue)...." p.122--"Blue, Garrett W., died 'last Tuesday,' aged 81 years. He was an uncle of Mrs. Susan Parsons. Source: The June 21, 1872 issue of the South Branch Intelligencer, Romney, W.Va." p.123--"Blue, Uriah, died on May 3, 1854, aged 74 years. His wife, Elizabeth, died Oct. 30, 1857, aged 80 years." No source given. According to census records, before living with Issac & Susan Parsons, Garret lived with Susan's parents for several years. 3. Are you sure the enumerator misunderstood the word "family"? This was West Virginia, after all. (Just kidding, cuzzins!) Seriously, the spelling problems in the censuses have always been with us. That's why the Soundex system was developed - and Thank God!. I have found a name as simple as Hope spelled at least 3 different ways, and Hammond about five. And I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to how many variations of the Germanic name Mauk/Mauck/Mack/Mock I have seen. It is fun, isn't it? singhals <[email protected]> wrote:Folks, I'm working on an index to the 1930 Hampshire county census. I'll upload each district as I finish it. Bloomery will be first. It's obvious that educational standards have been on a downward spiral much longer than is popularly supposed. (g) The Shaffnaker family for whom the mountain is named is appearing as Shaffmaker or Schaffmaker. Given names fare worse. Family numbers turn out to be non-unique because it's apparent the enumerator misunderstood the definition of "family". In all columns a few things have been written over by either the enumerator or the Bureau and are close to illegible. I'll try to standardize spellings later on, but right now, any index is better'n none. Very few people own a radio so far -- mostly older couples. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Y! 3. Jean, Susan Blue, who married Isaac Parsons, parents were Uriah Blue and M. Elizabeth Donaldson. This Uriah Blue's parents were Uriah Blue and Susannah Williams (daughter of Richard Williams and Suzanna Peters). Susan Blue's uncle was Garrett W. Blue. Garrett W. Blue lived out his elderly years in the home of Susan Blue and Isaac Parsons. As far as I know, this Garrett W. Blue had no children. Some information I have says that Grace M. Blue who married Louis Brady Brydon was the daughter of George Blue and Mary See. I don't know who George Blue's parents were. I would not be surprised if these Blue's are connected to the Hampshire Co. Blue family. Check out the Blue Family Assoc. web page for the Blue family genealogy publication. You will probably find them listed there. You probably know that Louis Brady Brydon's maternal grandmother was Isaac Parsons's sister. Do you have a copy of George S. Brackett's 1945 publication on the Brackett, Steele, Parsons, Waddle families? The Brydon's are mentioned in it along with some great family stories. Hope this helps, Jane At 11:34 PM 10/21/02, you wrote: >Would anyone know the ancestors of Susan Blue (b. 1817) >who married Isaac Parsons (1814-1862). 3. Mary, Is this the Thomas Williams that lived over near the North River or Little Cacapon or perhaps near today's Berkeley Springs? Berkeley Springs is now in Morgan Co., but was once in Hampshire and was previously known as Bath and Warm Springs. There were several Williams' spread from Shepherdstown to the North Branch of the Potomac and Patterson's Creek. I don't know yet how they all fit together. 1. [WVHAMPSH-L] Cemeterying: Wilson and Rosebrough=Hampshire County 250 Update
    2. R. Wayne McGahuey
    3. Greetings one and all. I have updated the website for the night. I have added two cemeteries to my list of 250. The first one is the Wilson Cemetery just out of Rio, sitting on the Hampshire Co, and Hardy Co. lines. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/wilson.htm The next cemetery was rather hard to get to, but when I found it I felt good. I have called it the Rosebrough Family Cemetery. I see on my list of cemeteries I have a Rosebrook Cemetery near Rio also. These could be one in the same, but I doubt it. The oldest stones definitely had the last name of Rosebrough on them. This cemetery is in very poor shape. A very large tree has been chain sawed down and it now lays on top of some of the graves. Does anyone have a listing of all the people buried at this cemetery?? If so, could I get it.???? http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/rosebrou.htm That is it for tonight. 3. Greetings one and all I went out and about for a few hours today. So for the next couple of hours, I will be updating the website for the additions. My first update is to the Church of Christ Memorial Park in Delray. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/delray.htm Today I stopped by and took photos of all the markers and found out that this a very new cemetery as several of the markers don't have death dates on them yet. The other places I will be adding tonight will be the Rosebrough Family Cemetey and the Wilson Family Cemetery.
