    3. Here are a couple of tips that have helped me. Pour plain bottled water over the tombstone lettering. This works particularly well on those brighter, white stones and sometimes helps with the older, darkened ones too. I always take a "dry" picture first, before I wet the stone down to take a "wet" one. A SOFT brush can also help improve contrast by gently removing buitl-up debris, especially in the crevices of the lettering. Do this BEFORE using water. While night pictures might well work, I have to agree with Wayne on night trips to cemeteries - sounds a bit too much like Blair Witch Project, Halloween and snipe-hunting all rolled into one to me! Find the dead-center of the stone, then take one longish side step to either side. You want about a 45-degree angle off straight-on. For dark stones, it helps to have one of those silvery survival blanket thingies to prop up on the OTHER side of straight-on to reflect any light including the flash. (A sheet of prescored foam-board in blinding white is also good -- and it props itself up.) Cheryl

    3. Wayne, do you have any individual gravestone pictures from the Herriott family cemetery that you visited over the weekend? I am descended from Ephraim and Eliza Herriott (through another son, John) and would love to have pictures of the gravestones. I have pictures of Ephraim and Eliza but pictures of their gravestones would be a nice addition. Thanks... and keep up the great work you are doing for all of us!! We appreciate it VERY much! 3. Greetings one and all, The weekend is done and I did a little cemeterying today. No major adventured happened, everything went smoothly. Found all the cemeteries I was looking for. And as I always mention, if you see any errors, or want to make comments, please feel free to write so I can fix everything. The first was the Sloan / Ludwick Family Cemetery. I found this one behind a corn field. Today I was in a hurry, so I thought that I would take photos of the stones at this cemetery and read them when I got home, but when I got home and looked at the photos, almost all of the Sloan markes were unreadable. If I remember right, the stones were old, and it will take some time to transcribe them even at the cemetery. Does anyone already have a listing for this cemetery????? I even made a link to this cemetery as I think some people may call it the Ludwick / Sloan Family Cemetery. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/sloan.htm Next I came to another Parker Family Cemetery sitting out in the middle of a cow pasture. The cemetery was fenced, so the cows couldn't destroy it. Even an electric fence, I was able to climb the fence without getting zapped. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/parker1.htm Then, on the side of the road was a 3 grave cemetery in someones front yard. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/wolford1.htm The next one, as behind an old farm house, and very easy to get to. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/herriott.htm The final one today, I had to ask directions and found it moments later. This is another one of those cemeteries which I need help on if someone has it. It was getting dark at the time, and I used the flash on the camera, but some of the dates and names didn't turn out all that well. If you have a listing for the people, could you send them. 2. R. Wayne McGahuey
    3. Greetings one and all, I have updated again tonight to the website. This will be the last update for the night. First I have added the Powelson Family Cemetery. There are many people in the cemetery with the name of Powell, but the first buried there were individuals with the last name of Powelson. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/powell1.htm I would like to make a comment and your help at this time. From time to time I come to a cemetery, and I call the name of the cemetery with the name of the first person that I find buried there. Sometimes this is correct to call it that, but at times, the cemetery is called something else. So don't feel bad if you think you need to email me to correct this. I would rather have the name what it should be. So please email with your comments. The next is the Loy Family Cemetery, near Northriver Mills. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/loy.htm That is it for tonight. 3. Greetings one and all, I made a short trip out today and found a couple of cemeteries as well as updated a couple places on the website. One of the updates was supplying a photo to the Cowgill (Lenore) Gravesite. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/cowgill.htm My next update is in the progress and will take me some time, but thanks to Cheryl H. Singhel (of this forum) I now have a partial listing for the Ebenezer Cemetery in Romney. I'm in the process of converting it to my format, so please be patient. I have placed it out there for reference until I'm able to get to the cemetery myself, and get all the names off the stone. http://members.citynet.net/rwayne/hampco/ebencem.htm I will put out a couple more updates tonight. 3. Randy, The Blue web site I had referred to is the same as has been provided on the list. It's a wonderful site. You'll probably find your Blue's there. The Brackett publication was a self published manuscript that the author gave out to the family. I have seen a copy at the Romney Library. If you don't have access to the Romney library, contact me privately. I have Isaac and Susan (Blue) Parsons's family bible. In the bible, their oldest child is listed as Catherine Elizabeth Parsons, b. 1 May 1837, d. 24 March 1862, buried at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, WV. She never married, died of perhaps appendicitis while the family was staying at Capon Springs during the war. The rest of the children listed in the bible are: Isaac Parsons Jr. b. 1 Dec 1838 Sarah Louise Parsons b. 10 Jun 1841 md. Isaac T. Brady James Donaldson Parsons b. 21 Oct 1843 Mary Susan Parsons b. 5 Dec 1847 md. J. A. Pancake Virginia Blue Parsons b. 15 Sep 1849 md. G.S. Arnold Garrett Williams Parsons b. 13 May 1852 Burr Anthony Parsons b. 21 Apr 1855 Edith Parsons b. 1 Jan 1858 md. J.S. Waddle I'm not aware of how your Catherine Parsons who married a Smith fits into this family. I'm *quite* certain that Catherine Elizabeth Parsons never married and that her female siblings married as listed above - but you never know! I'd be very interested in the data you have that supports Isaac and Susan (Blue) Parsons as the parents of your Catherine who married a Smith. This exchange of Parsons data is probably no longer relevant to the Hampshire Co. list, so please contact me privately with your response.
