Hello Vance and Cart researchers. Remember that at one point, I made a remark about the possibilities of two Conrad/Conrood Carts? Well the evidence seems to be mounting up. I will see if I can make this as clear for you as I can, and see what you all think. I am sending a cc to John Hoff, since I am using some of his information in the process of trying to sort this information out. Perhaps he can provide us with further clues about this. I am using these resources in my research: 1. Family Group Record for Adam Cart/Maria Catharina Schmidt and notes etc. from John Hoff the 3rd. Apparently alot of his research on them is from the LDS records and CD's from Family Tree. [November 1997] 2. Marriage CD FTM 3. 1850 Census CD 4. Baptism records found on messages from Melinda [Mopitch], as well as John Hoff 3rd information 5. Ancestors of Kanawha Co. vol 5 Book 6. Information from Marcia Rhinehart, and VA. Could there be two Conrad Carts and/or Mary Vances? I show Adam Cart/Karch and Maria Catharina Schmidt as parents of Conrad Cart b. in 1782, Montgomery Co. Pa. I also show Conrad James Cart b. 1784 in Montgomery Co. Pa. who was the son of William Cart and Maria Heppenheimer. I also show Conrad Cart b. 1784 in Greenbrier Co. WVA in the Ancesters of Kanawha Co. Book. To add to the confusion: Baptism records show Conrad Cart Baptised 1782 sponsered by Conrad Schmidt and Elizabeth Heppenheimer Further information shows Richard D. Carte b. 1821, in Greenbrier Co. WV. who is the son of Conrad Cart and Mary Vance. Marriage dates: several places list a positive date of 8-20-1807 for the marriage of Conrad and Mary Polly Wentz, also known as Vance, in Monroe Co. Va. The marriage cd for one, lists the marriage date as 8-20-1808 for Conrad and Mary Polly Vance. Several other places indicate the same date for the marriage. Birth dates and places for Mary Polly Vance I show 12-18-1789 in York Co. Pa. Monaghan Twnsp. 1780 [Ancesters of Kanawha Co., submitted by Judith Brinegar] 1784 [1850 cd census] death dates Mary Polly Vance 1-24-1863 in Kanawha co. Va. aft 1870 [Ancestors of Kanawha Co. Book submitted by Judith Brinegar] Then Melinda says: Robert Vance married Mary E. Cart 1810. She was the dau. of Willhelm Cart and Catherine Heppenheimer.... Where does it all fit? Could one of the Mary Vances be a Vance by marriage? According to Marcia's info, this Mary would have been Conrad's sister. The Mary Ann Kart who was the sister of the Conrad Cart, who was son of Adam and Cathrina Cart, married Alexander Brown. There must be more than one Conrad Carte. This is most confusing, isn't it? There may not be an easy answer......I have to go on an errand. Will see what else I can come up with later. Glad if anyone can sort this mess out. I am going to play a hunch and see if a Mary Polly Wentz/ Wantz married a Conrad Cart, next time I am able to research. Could it be that Mary Polly Wentz and Mary Polly Vance are two different Mary Pollys and not one and the same?
