The Lewisburg Academy has been closed for many years. After Dr. McIlhenny's tenure in the 19th century, the school later formed the roots of the Greenbrier Presbyterian Military School (which became Greenbrier Military School, which closed in the 1970s) and the Lewisburg Female Seminary (which became the Lewisburg Female Institute and then the Greenbrier College for Women, which also closed in the 1970s). Greenbrier Community College now occupies the site of the original academy on the grounds of the former Greenbrier College for Women. If you're trying to locate information on someone who attended either the military school or the women's college, you might try contacting either of the alumni associations, both of which are active. At the Greenbrier Historical Society, we have most of the early (and later) yearbooks from both schools.
