My wall is the same as it has been now for several years. George W. Hoover, son of Jacob Hoover and Susan Garver, was born in Greenbriar County approx 1810. His brother Jacob, born 1797, is my ancestor. Jacob's tombstone says he was born 1797 in Lincoln Co VA. Well, as we all know, there was no such place in 1797. Be that as it may, I am certain that Jacob, and brother George, resided with their parents, Jacob and Susan Hoover in Greenbriar County. There is no trace whatsoever of them in Greenbriar. I have sent for a lot of Greenbriar records and have had help from other listers with wills, etc. But Jacob and Susan just don't show up!! Some of their older children were probably married in Greenbriar County. Daughters married into Lane, Sherrard (Sherrod), Chambers and Rounds families. Jacob and Susan Hoover were living in Logan Co Ohio before 1845. Jacob died there; we have his will. They also had a son, Martin, who died before his father died. Don't know whether Martin died in VA or in OH. I have no idea where Jacob Hoover and Susan Garver were married. In looking at all the early Virginia county census/tax records, trying to find Garver and Hoover in the same county, I find only in 1790 that there were families by those surnames in Shenandoah County VA. Suggestions for further research would be very much appreciated. There was a Fred. Hoover in Greenbriar County in the right time frame. I have his will. It seems he did have a son Jacob but no further information. I plan to send for probate, hoping it may say where sons lived at the time of their father's death. I've sent for marriage records of any Jacob Hoover in Greenbriar county in that time frame and have two certified copies but neither are my Jacob. Since I know that Jacob and Susan left Greenbriar before 1850, census records are not a lot of help. Jacob died before 1850; Susan was living with a son in 1850 and said she was born in VA.
