I have had quite a few requests for Cart information. Am sending some of the messages to Karen Cabler, who I am not sure is on the Greenbrier List, to see if she can help us sort out some of the discrepancies in the Cart/Vance area. This morning, my husband and I have been researching on the CD's to see what we could verify, or add to the information, which we had previously about the family. Hope you find this report interesting, and can place these people in their appropriate spot. I will start with some information which seems very strange. This comes from the 1850 Census CD #309. [Kanawha Co. VA] Coonrod Cart age 66 Mary A. age 57 If this is our Mary Polly Vance, this leads us to think that there is another possible birthdate for her. Information has her born in 1780 and 1789, This would lead us to a date of 1784, I think. Polly A. age 23 Rebecca age 20 Elizabeth age 18 Virginia age 16 Hannah age 14? There is also a 25 year old Male laborer living with them. Not sure if he is a Cart. Listed under him, is a William last name unreadable. He is age 15. I am thinking he belongs to the Throwman group which also lives there. James W. Throwman age 10 John R. Throwman age 6 Charles ? last name unreadable, age 84. He is a milworker apparently. Does anyone have the children for Conrad and Mary polly Vance Cart listed? I only list four children for them. There must be more. I am wondering if the Throwman children are grandkids and the children of one of their children. Do you think this is the right Conrad Cart? Conrad Cart's child Richard, who we have discussed previously was not listed with them in 1850. I believe that the Census information also found in 1850 Census CD [Kanawha Co. VA], for a Richard Cart, is the right one to be Conrad and Mary Vance Cart's son, Richard. Everything checks out. Richard Cart age 29 Farmer Mahalia age 21 George age 2 years old. Only problem I have with this is that I had birth year of 1852 for George. This would seem that he was b. in 1848, if we can trust the Census. On the Marriage index #229, for VA and various states, we find the date of 1808 for the marriage of Conrad Cart and spouse "Polly" Vance . August 20, 1808 Sec. 5, Chapt. 75, Monroe Co. VA. I did not have the location before. I had a date of 1807 for the marriage of Conrad and Mary Polly Vance, from John Hoff. Hope this helps someone.
